Chris Pine To Star In Texas Crime Thriller Movie From Fargo & Alien: Earth Creator, First Story Details Revealed

Chris Pine is set to star in Nowhere Fast, a crime thriller by Fargo and Legion creator Noah Hawley. Pine has been in the Hollywood industry for over two decades, with his most prominent roles in the Star Trek franchise, Princess Diaries, and Wonder Woman. However, his most acclaimed movie was Taylor Sheridan’s Hell or High Water, which is one of his highest-rated movies on Rotten Tomatoes with a 97% score. Now, it seems that Pine will be revisiting that genre under a rising filmmaker.

According to Variety, Pine will be starring in Nowhere Fast, and casting is still underway. The film follows a small-town criminal who accidentally kills his boss’s nephew. Hawley, known for his work on Fargo and Legion, will write and direct, with 26 Keys Productions producing. The film is produced by Hawley’s Austin-based film and TV company, 26 Keys Productions. It’s being financed by 30West, which previously worked with Pine on The Contractor (2022). 30West will co-represent U.S. distribution rights alongside CAA Media Finance, with international rights handled by AGC International.

What This Means For Pine’s Career

Nowhere Fast Is Pine & Hawley’s First Collaboration

Pine’s role in Nowhere Fast continues his exploration of intense, action-driven stories. Following his standout performance in Hell or High Water, the Star Trek actor has built a reputation for playing morally conflicted characters. Nowhere Fast reinforces that, and offers him another chance to take on a complex role that merges tension and action, similar to his previous successes in films like The Contractor, All The Old Knives (2022), and Outlaw King (2018). This would also mark his latest project after Poolman, Wish, and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

While Hawley has worked across various genres in television, Nowhere Fast marks his first feature film collaboration with Pine. In addition, it’s only Hawley’s third movie after Lucy in the Sky and The Alibi. Unfortunately, the filmmaker’s first attempts in the movie sphere haven’t been well-received by critics, landing 57% and 21%, respectively. On the other hand, Hawley has built a strong reputation on the small screen, which includes works like Fargo and Legion. In addition, he is the creator, writer, and director of the upcoming series Alien: Earth, which is expected to continue the franchise’s streak following the success of Alien: Romulus.

Pine’s continued focus on gritty, action-driven narratives is evident in his Nowhere Fast casting, and he is well-suited for this role given his background in the genre. Working with Hawley on their first feature collaboration brings a new dynamic for both parties to the project. While it is still in early development, Nowhere Fast is shaping up to be a solid addition to Pine’s career and the crime thriller genre.
