“This Is Absolutely Crazy”: Wicked 2’s Rumored Dorothy Actor Reacts To Internet Speculation

Wicked: For Good‘s rumored Dorothy actor reacts to the internet speculation. Based on the beloved Broadway musical, which acts as a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the first half of the film adaptation follows the rivalry turned friendship between Galinda (Ariana Grande), who becomes Glinda the Good, and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), the future Wicked Witch of the West. The upcoming Wicked: For Good will adapt the second half of the stage musical, which features a small cameo from Dorothy, the main character in The Wizard of Oz.

Now, during a recent interview with RTÉ News at the IFTA awards, Alisha Weir reacted to the internet rumors that she will be playing Dorothy in Wicked: For Good. The actress recalled the first time she saw the rumors, which went viral on social media, calling them “absolutely crazy.” She went on to say that it would be “wonderful” for her to appear in Wicked and is a fan of everyone involved. Read her comments or watch the video below:

When I had seen it, I was like, “This is absolutely crazy,” and it was so crazy on social media and everybody was asking me. That would be wonderful. I’m such a big fan of Wicked and I saw the first one with my family. I’m such as fan of John Chu’s work and Ariana Grande and Cynthia but that would be pretty cool.

What Alisha Weir’s Comments Mean For Her Rumored Appearance As Dorothy In Wicked: For Good

How Did The Rumors Begin?

The 2024 Wicked movie already featured a Dorothy cameo as she, Toto, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion are all seen from behind walking down the Yellow Brick Road before the opening musical number, “No One Mourns The Wicked.” The Wicked trailer also features some additional sH๏τs of Dorothy, which were seemingly cut from the movie. Dorthy has a more prominent cameo in the second half of Wicked, though she never actually appears on stage, her silhouette is seen throwing a bucket of water to melt Elphaba.

Rumors about Alisha Weir playing Dorothy started circulating around the release of the first Wicked movie. The speculation was sparked partly by her appearance on the red carpet at the film’s premiere, coupled with the recent Critics’ Choice Awards where she was seen spending time with Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. When asked about her potentially playing Dorothy in Wicked 2, Weir didn’t confirm nor deny such, possibly because she’s been media trained and may have signed an NDA.

What The Casting Choice Would Mean

Though her casting remains unconfirmed, Alisha Weir would be a solid choice for Dorothy. Though it was her performance as the тιтular vampire ballerina in Abigail that earned her a nomination at the Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Young Actress, she is also no stranger to musicals, having starred in 2022’s Matilda: The Musical movie. In turn, if an actress the caliber of Weir was cast, it’s likely that Dorothy will have a role in Wicked: For Good that is much bigger than a simple silhouette, as she appeared in the original Broadway production.

Wicked: For Good releases on November 21.
