“Drax Is Completely Closed To Me Unless…”: Dave Bautista Reveals His One Condition To Return For Guardians Of The Galaxy 4

Marvel Cinematic Universe alum Dave Bautista opens up about what it would take for him to agree to return for Guardians of the Galaxy 4. While the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy wrapped its run in 2023, the last film planted the seed for a hypothetical sequel that could lead into another series of films. As the story of the original Guardians of the Galaxy came to its conclusion, many wondered if the 2023 installment was truly the end for some of those stars.

In a new interview with ComicBook, Bautista was asked if he would ever be open to coming back to the MCU as Drax in a hypothetical Guardians of the Galaxy 4, following the conclusion of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Bautista explained he considers his Drax days as “completely closed to me,” but stressed that if James Gunn were to be involved, he would be up for it, as he shared the following:

Drax is completely closed to me. Unless James Gunn called me and asked if I would do something as Drax again, I just wouldn’t be interested. If James called me, which obviously is not gonna happen. He’s doing okay, he’s gone a different route.

What Dave Bautista’s Guardians of the Galaxy 4 Comments Mean

From Bautista’s comments, it’s clear that he will not be coming back to the MCU as Drax anytime soon. Since Gunn has fully moved on from Marvel Studios and is working as the co-CEO of DC Studios, raising the new DC Universe, there is no real possibility of him ever being able to do Guardians of the Galaxy 4. With Gunn not doing Guardians of the Galaxy 4, Bautista’s condition will not be able to be fulfilled, meaning his time with the MCU is finished.

It’s also crucial to take into account that to this point, Marvel Studios has not officially greenlit a Guardians of the Galaxy 4 movie, and it’s unclear if this is even something they are considering pursuing in the future. The characters will likely be back for something like Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, as The Multiverse Saga gets closer to ending this mᴀssive storyline. However, as the MCU will reportedly go through a soft reboot in Phase 7 with Avengers: Secret Wars, Marvel Studios may be holding off with developing Guardians of the Galaxy 4 for the time being.

Our Take On Dave Bautista’s Guardians of the Galaxy 4 Comments

It’s understandable why Bautista would only return as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy 4 if Gunn was involved, given that the filmmaker was integral to bringing these characters from the comics to the big screen. In the end, Drax’s story has come to a natural conclusion, and the MCU timeline has plenty of other characters to focus on. Until Marvel Studios officially announces it, Guardians of the Galaxy 4 currently seems something of a long sH๏τ, even with a new team roster to explore.
