Bartholomew is the head of a sinister company doing dangerous research on mutated organisms, and she’s willing to kill people to keep everything hidden. That’s the total opposite of Ripley, the rebellious do-gooder hero of the Alien movies who exists in a world of danger caused by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation. Oddly enough, Bartholomew seems a lot like someone who would be behind the scenes at Weyland-Yutani.

Sigourney Weaver Plays A Fun Antagonist

It’s not an enormous twist that Bartholomew is the villain in The Gorge. Dark Lake is revealed to be an antagonist fairly early. Still, it adds a layer of trust to the mission at the beginning of the film when Sigourney Weaver is the one offering it. Having her in their role allows for a clever moment of subversion, and it’s fun to see one of the great cinema heroes get to be a villain. Sigourney Weaver is fantastic in the movie, showing her acting chops as an evil character, which she’s only done in a few projects like The Defenders.
