The Odyssey Poster Fan Art Imagines Christopher Nolan’s Mind-Bending Take On Epic Poem

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey

comes to life in a mind-bending new piece of fan-made poster art. After the mᴀssive success of the critically-acclaimed Oppenheimer in 2023, Nolan has set his sights on an adaptation of Homer’s epic Greek poem. Though many questions remain about how exactly Nolan’s The Oydssey movie will adapt the story, the project, which will reportedly start filming this spring, features a stacked cast, including Tom Holland, Matt Damon, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Charlie Theron, Robert Pattinson, Jon Bernthal, Elliot Page, and Lupita Nyong’o, among others.

Promotional materials for Nolan’s The Odyssey are likely still a ways away from being released, but artist Sahin Düzgün now shares his own take on what a poster for the film might look like. The art seemingly imagines Nolan maintaining the poem’s 8th or 7th century BCE setting, though the curving waves and eye-like design speak to the interesting twists the filmmaker could make to the narrative. What The Poster Art Means For The Odyssey

How Will Nolan Tell The Story Of Homer’s Poem?

When Nolan tells a story, he doesn’t usually tell it in a linear or straightforward fashion. His three Batman movies remain his most simple movies narratively, but many of his other films have taken unique approaches to time and structure. Dunkirk, for example, cuts between three main storylines, with one taking place across one week, another across one day, and a third across one hour. Tenet, too, tells a story that involves time moving both forwards and backwards.

Given Nolan’s penchant for twisting narratives and manipulation of time, the major question facing The Odyssey is just how Nolan will adapt it. Homer’s poem chronicles the story of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, as he embarks on a 20-year-long journey home following the Trojan War. Homer’s The Odyssey isn’t actually told in a linear fashion, with readers joining Odysseus’ tale around the mid-point, and Nolan could certainly lean into this manipulation of time. The poster art, however, suggests that the director could also go further, adding an Inception-like twist to the tale.

Our Take On The Odyssey Poster Art

Nolan’s Next Movie Is One To Look Forward To

Matt Damon as Leslie Groves looking serious in Oppenheimer.

Oppenheimer, a three-hour, R-rated historical drama, essentially cemented that audiences will show up at the theater for whatever Nolan makes, with that film grossing a staggering $975 million worldwide. No matter what Nolan’s take on The Odyssey, the film is already highly anticipated, and it seems sure to be a hit. Knowing Nolan, however, as the poster art shows, there will be a level of grand, jaw-dropping spectacle that separates the film from even other historical Hollywood epics.

The Odyssey‘s budget is reportedly $250 million, which would make it Nolan’s most expensive movie ever.

Nolan has never made a movie set this far back in time before, and the poster art above only makes the prospect even more exciting, especially since the director has a love of practical effects and capturing action in-camera. Many questions remain about The Odyssey, but there’s clearly a lot of intrigue and hype surrounding the project, even at these early stages.
