The Sith Secretly Saved The Galaxy From An Even More Terrifying Threat

The Star Wars galaxy was once saved by the most unlikely of organizations – the Sith Order. As the primary antagonists of the Star Wars franchise writ large, it is difficult to imagine the Sith acting so seemingly benevolently, of course. The first Sith Lords in history were former Jedi who fell to the dark side and created their own distinct code, philosophies, and, over time, traditions. Despite their many differences from the Jedi Knights, the Sith Lords still held on to some elements of Jedi culture, such as the use of lightsabers.

As their respective names imply, one of the key differences between the Jedi and Sith is their outlooks on the Force and the galaxy. The Jedi Knights serve the will of the Force and protect the innocent beings of the galaxy, while the Sith seek to rule the galaxy, using the corrupt dark side of the Force for this endeavor. At one point, however, a Sith Lord became an incidental protector of the galaxy.

A Dangerous Droid Intelligence Attempted An Uprising Against All Organic Matter

As revealed in the second issue of Dark Droids by Charles Soule and Luke Ross, an ancient droid of mysterious origins threatened the entire galaxy. The droid described itself as “hungry,” and sought to spread its artificial intelligence across the galaxy, possessing other droids and organic beings. The droid was dangerous enough for the Sith Lords themselves to consider it a threat, so they neutralized it for a time. Of course, the Sith did not imprison the droid for the good of the galaxy, but rather to leave the galaxy intact so they could conquer it.

The Sith Used Darth Momin’s Fermata Cage To Trap It

Vader and Palpatine getting sucked into the Fermata Cage.

The Sith considered this droid to be so dangerous that they subdued it with the Fermata Cage. Powered by the unnatural energy of the dark side of the Force, the Fermata Cage traps beings, keeping them frozen in time, though it also preserves its victims. Any being released from the Cage would not have experienced the pᴀssage of time. It is unknown when the mysterious droid was trapped inside the Fermata Cage, but it may have been held within the dark device for centuries or over a millennium.

The creator of the Fermata Cage – Darth Momin – was a fascinating Sith Lord. Momin’s philosophy directly contradicted Sith philosophy, rendering him a heretic. Momin did not believe that the dark side served the Sith but rather should be worshiped, making his views align more closely with the Knights of Ren – another dark side-using group with some similarities to the Sith. Fittingly, such an unusual Sith Lord would create a device that would save the Star Wars galaxy, at least for a time.
