Moana 3 Should Use The Kakamora’s Untapped Powers From Polynesian Mythology

Though Moana 2 does a great job of expanding on the Kakamora, the next installment could finally explore their epic history and supernatural abilities. Moana 2‘s reviews praise the sequel’s treatment of Polynesian culture and mythology to inform its characters, music, and conflict. In the sequel, the popular coconut tribe is presented as a victim of Nalo’s (Tofiga Fepulea’i) curse, as he separates them from their island. As Kotu joins Moana 2‘s main characters, the Kakamora’s journey becomes interlaced with that of the people of Motunui, and their relationship is likely to continue.

As the next sequel is set to develop the realm of the gods and have the island of Motunui meet other peoples of the sea, filmmakers have an opportunity to enhance the representation of the Kakamora and honor their reputation as noble human helpers. As Kotu joins the fight against Nalo in Moana 2‘s ending, his tribe is set to ally with the Motunui Tautai in future battles. A fan-favorite element of the franchise, the Kakamora could prove to be key allies in Moana 3, especially if creators explore their powers in Polynesian Mythology.

The Kakamora Have Incredible Powers In Polynesian Mythology The Moana Movies Have Ignored

The Kakamora Are Powerful Protectors Of Nature In Polynesian Mythology

While creators could have used them in the sequel’s epic fight, Moana 2 still entirely overlooks the Kakamora’s supernatural powers and heroic history. Though the charming coconuts get a redeeming story in Moana 2 that aligns with their mythical origins — as they are no longer pirate foes, but tragic wanderers and helpers — the franchise still hasn’t depicted their special abilities and protector roles. Notably, a bonus feature in Moana 2, тιтled “Kakamora Chronicles,” explains the mythical Polynesian creatures to the full extent, exploring what makes them valuable to humans, animals, and plants.

The mighty Kakamora have tales where they save entire islands from sinking into the ocean, making them strong candidates to join Moana’s crew.

The short documentary says the Kakamora are loving albeit mischievous creatures from Makira-Ulawa who live in caves deep in the forest. The Kakamora are said to be protectors of nature, extremely strong, and have the power of telepathy and invisibility, their supernatural abilities coming from a black stone they keep under their right armpit. They are also said to be hard to spot, but bring luck for a lifetime to those who see them. Besides avoiding answering what the Kakamora look like without coconuts, it’s strange the Moana movies haven’t adapted the mythical creatures’ greatest qualities.

Moana 3 Is A Great Opportunity To Introduce The Kakamora’s Powers

The Kakamora’s Powers Could Be Key In Defeating Nalo In Moana 3

Directors of Moana 2 have said that consultants from the Solomon Islands wished the Kakamora had a bigger story in the sequel, which prompted them to investigate and then integrate the beloved mythical creatures into the Motunui leader’s quest. However, considering their popularity and rich history, Moana 3 could continue to develop them and give the Kakamora a larger role in the fight against the powerful Storm God. As Moana 3 is set to explore the Polynesian gods, good and evil, the Tautai will surely need to join forces with other creatures of the sea.

Notably, the mighty Kakamora have legends where they save entire islands from sinking into the ocean, making them valuable candidates to join Moana’s crew. Agile as they are, Moana 2s favorite supernatural beings could become invisible and communicate via telepathy to coordinate unexpected attacks and might even be able to influence animals and other mythical creatures because of their close relationship to nature. Now that the peoples of the sea are connected again, Moana 3 can easily include a storyline that features the Kakamora and takes advantage of their amazing powers.
