La Dolce Villa Ending Explained: What Happens To Olivia’s Villa

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for La Dolce Villa.

Netflix’s charming new movie La Dolce Villa has just dropped on Netflix, and its ending is full of pleasant surprises and wholesome conclusions. There are a number of releases coming to Netflix in 2025, and while La Dolce Villa may not have been the most highly anticipated, it is a feel-good watch nevertheless. The cast of La Dolce Villa stars Scott Foley as Eric, the concerned businessman father of Olivia/Liv (Maia Reficco), who tries to talk his daughter out of purchasing a villa in Italy for one euro.

The movie builds on that storyline, with Eric meeting Francesca (Violante Placido), the mayor of the town, and developing feelings—although that is made more complicated by Eric being a widower, as Liv’s mom had pᴀssed away. Liv also faces her own obstacles as she works to rebuild and repair the home that she purchased. This comes to a head when a couple arrives, claiming their ancestry gives them the rights to the villa, threatening Liv’s new home, Eric’s relationship, and all that has been developed throughout the movie.

Does Olivia Get To Keep Her Villa?

A Question Of Ancestry Almost Takes Everything From Liv

In a movie that seems to be primarily geared toward being pleasant to watch, the possibility that Liv will lose her villa is really the only point of tension. From the beginning, Liv was pᴀssionate about renovating the Italian villa, and she (along with her dad and myriad other people living nearby) put considerable work into fixing it up and making it beautiful. That only made it all the more devastating when a couple showed up, saying that they received communications that the villa was theirs based on their ancestry.

Evidently, Francesca had tried multiple times to speak with them, but they never responded to various emails and calls. Once the villa had been completely revitalized, though, the couple arrived, interested in taking over the property. For a bit, it seemed as though the best case scenario was the couple paying Olivia back for the money she put into the renovation (which they ultimately agreed to do), in which case Liv would still lose the home she had created.

Luckily, at the eleventh hour, Francesca realized that there was a minor spelling discrepancy between the family name of this couple and the name tied to this property. Because of that, Olivia was able to retain her villa, and the couple was shown their family’s property, which needed as much work as Liv’s once had. La Dolce Villa ended on this celebratory note, with family and friends gathered at the villa to share a meal.

Eric’s Move To Italy & His Relationship With Francesca Explained

Eric And Francesca Face Some Obstacles In Their Relationship

Francesca looks at Eric in La Dolce Villa

While La Dolce Villa isn’t likely to be considered among Netflix’s best romantic comedies, the relationship between Eric and Francesca was one that audiences were rooting for. Eric’s love life wasn’t the main plotline, but it was a significant part of the story. At the beginning of La Dolce Villa, it was revealed that Eric’s wife (Olivia’s mother) had died. Although Eric had tried dating, nothing had stuck, and he told Liv that he had found dating apps scary.

The relationship between Eric and Francesca was one that audiences were rooting for.

This changed once Eric met Francesca, who he immediately had an interest in. At first, the two resisted jumping into any sort of romantic relationship, as Francesca was the mayor and felt it was inappropriate to become involved, especially because she was technically in charge of overseeing the one-euro homes project. However, eventually, they could no longer deny their feelings and began dating.

When it looked as though Liv’s villa was going to be given to another family, though, Eric considered going back to the United States, thereby ending their romantic entanglement. He even made it as far as the train, but he ultimately decided not to get on. Touchingly, Eric had decided to stay and try to make it work with Francesca even before he knew that the villa was saved after all. The end of La Dolce Villa then confirmed that Eric moved to Italy, and the conclusion suggests Francesca and Eric are now a happy couple.

After The Death Of Liv’s Mother, Things Changed

Eric’s relationship with Francesca wasn’t the only complicated dynamic he had in La Dolce Villa. At the beginning of the movie, it was clear that Olivia and Eric didn’t exactly get along, and a wall had gone up between the two after Olivia’s mother died. At one point, Olivia shared that she used to be close with her dad, but their relationship had become strained. It didn’t help matters that Eric arrived in Italy specifically to talk Olivia out of buying the villa and tell her she was making a mistake.

Over the course of the movie, that changed entirely. As Eric worked alongside Olivia to rebuild the villa, the father and daughter duo remembered how much they had in common and began to appreciate one another so much more. By the end, Olivia was encouraging Eric to pursue a relationship with Francesca, and Eric was offering to watch over the villa for the time being while Liv moved temporarily to Rome because of a job opportunity.

Why The Future Of Liv, Eric & Olivia’s Careers Are Changing

Plenty Of Adjustments Are On The Horizon For La Dolce Villa’s Characters

As mentioned, Liv’s career was taking a thrilling new direction, as she had been offered an internship opportunity as an interior designer in Rome. Although she had just built the villa, the position would only be temporary, so her plan was to accept and then return to the villa after a year. Alongside Liv, Francesca and Eric’s careers were also getting updates.

Early on (after he had finally accepted all that was happening with Olivia and the villa), Eric had revealed his interest in establishing a cooking school within the villa itself as a business venture. Of course, that was thrown into question when the villa was potentially going to a different family, but La Dolce Villa’s ending confirmed that Eric was following up on this plan after all. Likewise, while Francesca was still mayor, she was also building off these events to further her career, including by expanding the one-euro home program.

Will La Dolce Villa 2 Happen? How The Ending Sets Up A Sequel

Liv’s Villa Is Secured… But Could The Story Go Elsewhere?

La Dolce Villa Poster

At present, there are no confirmed plans for La Dolce Villa 2, and it’s unclear whether a sequel would really make sense. The movie was dedicated to Liv’s purchase of the villa and her efforts to renovate it, which is a story that has already been told. Even the romantic arc between Francesca and Eric doesn’t really feel like it needs additional screen time, as their story felt complete.

Even so, there are myriad ways the story could continue. Liv’s adventures in Rome could certainly be an area of focus for a potential sequel, as could the cooking school Eric is heading up. With La Dolce Villa being such a feel-good film, it’s also possible that a sequel would pick up with another relatively low-stress plotline that would still revisit these charming characters and this beautiful location.
