Iran Missile Alarms Ring In Middle East: Khamenei Greenlights Attacks On US Bases, War Clouds Darken

In a dramatic escalation of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, missile alarms echoed across cities from Tel Aviv to Dubai as Iran intensified its retaliatory strikes against US military installations and Israeli targets. With the recent election of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran’s new Supreme Leader following the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in late February, Tehran has signaled no intention of backing down. Sources indicate that the new leader has explicitly authorized a new wave of attacks, dubbed “True Promise 4,” targeting American bases in the Gulf region and beyond.

The crisis erupted on February 28, 2026, when joint US-Israeli airstrikes on Iranian territory resulted in the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several high-ranking officials. The strikes, described by the Trump administration as precision operations aimed at degrading Iran’s ballistic missile capabilities and command structures, have since expanded into a full-scale air campaign. In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched extensive missile and drone barrages, hitting US embᴀssies, consulates, and bases in countries including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, and Iraq. Reports from the ground detail strikes on the US Embᴀssy in Riyadh by Iranian drones and missile salvos targeting the US Fifth Fleet naval base in Manama, Bahrain.

As of March 11, 2026, the conflict has entered its 12th day, with Iran conducting over 30 waves of attacks. Mojtaba Khamenei’s ascension on March 8 has been marked by vows of intensified retaliation, including fresh missile launches over Tel Aviv and occupied Jerusalem. Iranian state media claims these operations have successfully hit 27 US bases and key Israeli facilities, such as the Tel Nof Airbase and military headquarters in HaKirya. Proxies backed by Iran, including Hezbollah in Lebanon, Houthis in Yemen, and militias in Iraq and Syria, have amplified the ᴀssault, launching over 170 attacks on US forces since the war’s onset.

The US and Israel have countered with ongoing precision strikes, including B-52 bomber deployments from Britain and broad-scale operations targeting Tehran’s infrastructure. President Trump has indicated the campaign could last weeks or more, while Defense Secretary statements suggest US attacks have “just begun.” Casualties are mounting, with at least nine reported killed in Dubai alone from Iranian strikes, and widespread damage to oil refineries and energy sites threatening global markets.

Regional allies hosting US bases, such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE, have faced direct threats from Iranian officials, who warn that any facilitation of American operations will invite further responses. Intelligence ᴀssessments highlight the risk of cyber attacks and targeted operations by Iranian proxies, though large-scale invasions remain unlikely.

As war clouds continue to darken over the Middle East, diplomatic efforts appear stalled. Iran’s low-cost proxy strategy—estimated at $1 billion annually—contrasts sharply with the US’s trillions spent in the region since 1979, underscoring the asymmetric nature of the conflict. With alarms ringing and missiles flying, the world watches as this powder keg risks igniting a broader regional inferno.
