A devastating blow has struck the heart of American diplomacy in the Middle East.
In a bold and highly coordinated ᴀssault, Iran-linked Shia militias have bombed the U.S. Embᴀssy compound in Baghdad, Iraq — the largest and most fortified American diplomatic mission in the world. At the same time, Iran-backed fighters launched a fierce ground and drone ᴀssault that reportedly overwhelmed and crushed U.S. and Iraqi air defense systems protecting Baghdad. Multiple Patriot and C-RAM systems were either destroyed or forced into silence as waves of explosive drones and rockets saturated the capital’s skies.
Militia groups aligned with the IRGC, including Kata’ib Hezbollah, claimed responsibility, calling the operation “a direct response to American aggression and the destruction of Tehran.” They boasted that “Baghdad has become the graveyard of American influence.”
U.S. officials confirmed the attack on the embá´€ssy caused significant damage and casualties, though exact numbers remain classified. The á´€ssault brings the total number of wounded American service members and diplomatic personnel in the war above 200.
President Donald Trump condemned the attack in the strongest terms, stating: “This is an act of war by Iran through their terrorist proxies. Attacking our embᴀssy will bring a response like they have never seen. We will hunt down every person responsible.”
The incident marks a dangerous expansion of the conflict into Iraq, opening a dangerous new front. While U.S. forces continue Operation Epic Fury — having hit over 5,000 targets inside Iran — Tehran is clearly using its vast network of proxy militias to strike back and stretch American resources thin.
Oil prices have now spiked past $282 per barrel as markets fear the war is spiraling into a broader regional conflict involving Iraq, the Gulf states, and Israel simultaneously. Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains almost completely halted.
This brazen attack on America’s diplomatic fortress in Baghdad signals that Iran is prepared to fight a multi-country shadow war even as its own capital burns. The risk of direct U.S. retaliation inside Iraq — or deeper strikes inside Iran — has never been higher.
