I’ve Changed My Mind, The Fantastic Four: First Steps Should Have Major Marvel Movie Cameos In Its Alternate MCU Timeline

The first The Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer displays such a unique style that I’m now convinced that not adding MCU cameos to the movie would be a disservice. The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ first official trailer reveals key information about the upcoming Phase 6 film. According to the trailer, the тιтular team have become celebrities in their universe’s version of New York City, and they enjoy the fruits of their crime-fighting efforts. However, the wealthy and famous Fantastic Four team will face a seemingly unstoppable threat when Galactus arrives, presumably to consume the whole planet.

Whatever the Fantastic Four do to fight Galactus, it will likely lead them to cross paths with the MCU’s earth-616 before Phase 6’s Avengers: Doomsday, where they will likely help the Avengers fight Doctor Doom. Before that happens, though, the Avengers will meet Julia Garner’s Silver Surfer, who may inform them about Galactus’ imminent arrival and help them protect the Earth from the Devourer of Worlds. The MCU’s Fantastic Four could also share the screen with alternate variants of other Marvel heroes, who could make a cameo in The Fantasic Four: First Steps to provide context to the тιтular team’s widespread acclaim.

The Fantastic Four’s First Trailer Has Convinced Me Silver Age Cameos Would Fit The Movie’s Style

Not Including Retrofuturistic Marvel Cameos In The Fantastic Four: First Steps Would Be A Missed Opportunity

The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ alternate universe grants the movie’s plot all the freedom it needs to introduce a brand-new version of the Fantastic Four without affecting the history of the MCU’s main universe. It also provides the Fantastic Four’s timeline with a retrofuturistic style that wouldn’t suit Earth-616. While The Fantastic Four: First Steps could focus exclusively on the тιтular team by revealing that they’re the only superheroes in their whole universe, the trailer’s unique audiovisual style also opens the door for countless possible cameos that would be impossible to include in other MCU projects.

The Fantastic Four were the first Marvel superheroes created collaboratively by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, launching a new, successful era for Marvel Comics in 1961.

As confirmed by the trailer, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is heavily inspired by 1960s aesthetics in regard to fashion, technology, architecture, personal styling, and music. In real life, Marvel Comics’ Silver Age introduced many of the company’s flagship characters and set up the foundations of stories that are still revisited and reinvented to this day. From 1956 to 1970, Marvel’s Silver Age presented comic readers with groundbreaking characters such as Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Black Panther, the X-Men, and of course, the Fantastic Four. All these Marvel characters embodied the spirit of the 1960s all throughout their early days.

I Know How The Fantastic Four’s Cameo Characters Could Fit The Team’s Timeline

The Fantastic Four’s Popularity Could Overshadow Other Heroes In Their Universe

Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Vanessa Kirby, Pedro Pascal and Joseph Quinn as The Fantastic Four In The Fantastic Four First Steps

Marvel Studios could present retrofuturistic versions of famous and lesser-known Marvel characters in The Fantastic Four: First Steps in the form of cameos. However, Marvel’s First Family must be the most popular heroes in-universe, not only because they’re the protagonists, but also because their celebrity status is a central aspect of the plot. Therefore, The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ cameo heroes could help prop up the Fantastic Four’s fame. The film could show how other Silver Age heroes fight crime parallel to the Fantastic Four, but fail to live up to their name.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps could give lesser-known Silver Age heroes the chance to have their time in the spotlight, at least to prove how stronger, more effective, and more popular the Fantastic Four are in comparison. Characters like Kevin Plunder a.k.a. Ka-Zaar, Simon Garth a.k.a. Zombie, and Vance Astro a.k.a. Major Victory could make their MCU debut struggling to defeat villains before the Fantastic Four arrive to help them, or fighting crime in their own corners of their universe while the Fantastic Four defend New York all on their own. Either way, the Fantastic Four’s popularity could be underscored by other heroes’ failure.

The Fantastic Four’s Alternate Timeline Provides The Opportunity For Ambitious Cameos

The Fantastic Four: First Steps Could Bring Back Wild Variants Of A-List MCU Characters

Taking the possibility of MCU cameos to the next level, The Fantastic Four: First Steps could introduce 1960s-inspired variants of major Marvel characters in the same universe as the Fantastic Four. In this timeline, Avengers, X-Men, Defenders, and Inhumans could sport similar old-fashioned looks. For instance, this universe’s Iron Man could employ retrofuturistic technology that resembles Tony Stark’s Mark I suit of armor, Ant-Man and the Wasp could wear more rudimentary technology, and a few mutants could show up wearing homemade costumes. Of course, all of them would fail to live up to the Fantastic Four’s popularity as well.

If Galactus destroys the Fantastic Four’s Earth, there won’t be any loose ends for the alternate variants introduced in the movie.

Since the Fantastic Four live in an alternate timeline with its own separate history, there’s nothing stopping every MCU hero from having their own unique story in it. They could also be played by other actors, preventing stars like Robert Downey Jr. or Chris Evans from having to return. Alternatively, тιтles like Iron Man and Black Panther could be held by other characters like Howard Stark and T’Chaka. Besides, Galactus’ long-awaited MCU arrival in The Fantastic Four: First Steps bears a disastrous omen for the Fantastic Four’s timeline. If Galactus destroys the Fantastic Four’s Earth, there won’t be any loose ends for the alternate variants introduced in the movie.
