Marvel’s Excellent Fantastic Four: First Steps Trailer Has Me Very Excited About The MCU’s Upcoming X-Men Movie

I’m even more excited about the upcoming debut of the X-Men in the MCU after the release of the first teaser trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Marvel Studios released the first teaser for The Fantastic Four: First Steps on February 4, and the trailer has given us our first look at this new version of Marvel’s First Family, and it’s only made me even more excited about the MCU reboot. Marvel Studios has set itself up for success with The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and this can be repeated with another upcoming superhero team.

After two previous attempts by 20th Century Fox to bring the Fantastic Four into live-action, both of which I found pretty disappointing, I’m so happy to see Marvel Studios finally doing the team justice. While Fox had more success with another huge Marvel franchise, the X-Men, I also feel as though Marvel’s mutant heroes will be better suited to the ever-expanding world of the MCU. I’m even more sure in this belief after the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ first teaser trailer, as it proves Marvel will be solving Fox’s biggest mistakes.

Marvel Has Proven It Will Do The Fantastic Four Justice In The MCU

The Fantastic Four Will Have A Strong Debut In The MCU

The first teaser trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps makes me certain that this interpretation of Marvel’s First Family will be the one that sticks. Following an unreleased 1994 movie, The Fantastic Four, 20th Century Fox brought two different versions of the team into live-action, first in 2005’s Fantastic Four and then in the 2015 reboot. Both of these adaptations had serious problems when it came to adapting comic-accurate characters, stressing the team’s family dynamic, displaying the heroes’ powers with good visual effects and exploring strong stories for the Fantastic Four.

I have no such concerns for the MCU’s upcoming Fantastic Four debut. While Marvel Studios is going to avoid retelling the team’s origin story directly, it seems this backstory will be similar to that from Marvel Comics, and the 1960s-inspired textures of the movie reflect the team’s Marvel Comics history perfectly. The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ production design, costume design and emphasis on the team’s family dynamic are excellent to see, and this gives me high hopes for another family-like superhero team that will soon be joining the MCU.

I Have High Hopes For The MCU’s X-Men After The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Trailer

The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Success Spells Good News For The MCU’s X-Men

Wade Wilson and Logan in the Void in ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine

The fact that Marvel Studios has taken the Fantastic Four back to their roots and hasn’t been afraid to make them very comic-accurate gives me hope that the same will be done for the X-Men. When 20th Century Fox brought the X-Men into live-action in 2000, they were altered for a modern audience, which meant the vibrant, colorful costumes were replaced by sleek, black leather uniforms, and some of the more powerful characters were made less so. I understand why this happened, and I still loved certain parts of Fox’s X-Men franchise, but I reckon Marvel will do better.

2024’s ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine has already proven that Marvel Studios will not shy away from giving the X-Men their comic-accurate costumes, as the likes of Wolverine, Gambit, the ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool Corps and Cᴀssandra Nova were all taken directly from the pages of Marvel Comics. We still don’t know how Marvel is going to actually introduce the X-Men to the MCU, but I’m hopeful they’ll be vibrant, campy, fun and full of heart. The X-Men team is also a rag-tag family of outcast mutants, so The Fantastic Four: First Steps provides the perfect template for the new superhero team.

20th Century Fox Never Got The X-Men Right

Fox’s X-Men Franchise Ran For Two Decades Between 2000 & 2020

Original X-Men team in 2000

It makes sense why 20th Century Fox changed so much about the X-Men when introducing them to audiences in 2000’s X-Men. Superhero movies weren’t mainstream then, and so audiences may not have responded well to the fantastical and out-there designs of the X-Men’s core heroes. However, Fox never changed this design for the team, as they continued to be portrayed not in their comic-accurate costumes throughout the entire two-decade-long X-Men franchise. I had a serious problem with this, so I’m looking forward to the MCU redeeming the X-Men.

Practically every member of the X-Men in Fox’s franchise was wildly different from their Marvel Comics counterpart, and the recent release of the animated X-Men ’97 series has only made this more noticeable. The X-Men in Marvel’s new series are very comic-accurate, which is how I’d love for the team to be depicted in the MCU, moving on from the mistakes of Fox’s past. The fact that Marvel’s First Family is getting this incredible comic-accurate makeover in The Fantastic Four: First Steps fills me with hope that the X-Men will finally get the same treatment.
