Novocaine Super Bowl Trailer: The Boys’ Jack Quaid Feels No Pain, So He Becomes The Action Hero With A Grin

A new trailer for Novocaine has arrived. The upcoming action-comedy movie, which was directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen (Villains) from a screenplay by Lars Jacobson (Day of the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ: Bloodline) features The Boys star Jack Quaid as an everyman bank worker named Nathan Caine who happens to have a condition where he feels no pain, which he must use to advantage when his girlfriend (Prey star Amber Midthunder) is taken hostage by bank robbers. The cast of the movie also includes Ray Nicholson (Smile 2), Jacob Batalon (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Betty Gabriel (Get Out), and Matt Walsh (Veep).

Paramount Pictures has now unveiled their official Super Bowl ad for Novocaine. The 45-second spot begins with a quick behind-the-scenes sH๏τ of Jack Quaid, Amber Midthunder, and Jacob Batalon introducing themselves and insisting that audiences should go see their movie. The trailer then quickly sets up Quaid’s character and the premise of the movie, highlighting various humorous moments including a scene where Nathan quickly and comically shakes off removing a bullet from his own body. What This Means For Novocaine

The Action Movie Is Comedy-Forward

The new Novocaine trailer puts the comedy of the 2025 action movie front and center, highlighting the fact that it will focus on laughs in between – and frequently during – its high-octane fight sequences. This gives star Jack Quaid plenty to work with, as he has a great deal of experience blending comedy with various genres. In addition to his role as Hughie in the darkly comic Prime Video superhero show The Boys, he has already proven his ability to do so in the satirical 2022 slasher sequel Scream and the animated sci-fi comedy Star Trek: Lower Decks.

The Boys follows a group of vigilantes trying to bring down a corrupt superhero organization.

This comedic element could very well help the 2025 action movie stand out. While action-comedies are a relatively common hybrid, there aren’t many in the upcoming theatrical slate for the year. While there are plenty of movies that will likely have comic relief or over-the-top elements, upcoming тιтles such as the Rami Malek revenge movie The Amateur, Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning, The Accountant 2, Ballerina, and the Marvel outings Captain America: Brave New World and Fantastic Four: First Steps will be relatively serious.

Our Take On The Novocaine Trailer

The Movie Could Be Huge For Jack Quaid

If Novocaine succeeds, it could mark a major step in Jack Quaid’s career. As this trailer highlights, the actor is front and center in the action movie, having been given a rare lead role. After giving memorable supporting performances in a variety of high-profile projects, stepping out front and center in a major theatrical release is allowing him a showcase for his talents that could potentially result in more lead roles coming his way in the next few years.
