Jonathan Bailey’s Character In Jurᴀssic World: Rebirth Is Secretly Replacing The Franchise’s Most Iconic Character

Jurᴀssic World: Rebirth is secretly replacing one of the franchise’s most iconic characters with Jonathan Bailey’s, which both strengthens and weakens this upcoming addition. Jurᴀssic World: Rebirth’s trailer highlighted quite a few fun moments for the latest installment in the Jurᴀssic Park universe, with several sH๏τs adding to both the excitement and dread audiences will feel as the story unfolds. The trailer points to a clear return to form for the dinosaur-filled film series, but it may also be hinting at its intent to replace a well-known staple of it with a familiar but different rendition.

Though the trailer showcased the fulfillment of some promises that audiences have been waiting to see, such as the return of the dinosaur Spinosaurus, the plot will follow a fresh new cast, including Bailey’s Dr. Henry Loomis, the resident paleontologist of the group. More emphasis was put on Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson) within the trailer, but Dr. Loomis did get some key moments, showcasing his wit. That wit, among other things, will likely make Jurᴀssic World: Rebirth even more enjoyable as it hints at the film’s intention to bring back the many memorable aspects of Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum).

Jonathan Bailey’s Dr. Loomis Is Bringing Back The Best Parts Of Ian Malcolm

Bailey’s Dr. Loomis Will Bring Back Malcolm’s Sarcasm and Snark

Bailey’s Dr. Loomis is set to bring back Malcolm’s iconic comedic commentary in Jurᴀssic World: Rebirth, with the trailer showcasing a sample of that same humor Goldblum used. Throughout the trailer, Dr. Loomis is able to add quick, dry commentary to various scenes he is in, highlighting both his competency and mindset. One major example of this is his explanation of why they are getting the DNA they need out of an egg, his simple delivery adding a layer of humor to an otherwise blunt statement..

That dry humor is one of the main staples of Goldblum’s character from the original films, so to see it in one of Jurᴀssic World: Rebirth’s characters is reᴀssuring. Alongside of bringing back both the wonder and fear the dinosaurs inspire, having Dr. Loomis adopt Malcolm’s wit shows that the film is reviving what made the franchise popular in the first place: the action, the dinosaurs, and the clever humans scrambling to survive. That being said, there are some issues that could come from this if they simply make Dr. Loomis a copy of Malcolm.

Why Jonathan Bailey’s Jurᴀssic World Character Shouldn’t Just Be Another Ian Malcolm

A Revival Should Both Pay Homage And Add To A Franchise

Bailey’s Dr. Loomis in Jurᴀssic World: Rebirth should not just be another version of Jurᴀssic Park’s Ian Malcolm, as it would add little to the franchise in regards to its human characters. The Jurᴀssic Park film series is known for its dinosaurs, but the franchise’s human characters also contribute to each film’s overall message on environmentalism and humanity’s impact on the planet. To have a character simply mimic an earlier one would undermine anything new the film would have to say, which would take away from its chance of standing out.

While having that humor return to the franchise would be a welcome homage for audiences, it would also take away the chance for those same audiences to fall in love with Dr. Loomis and see what his mindset brings to the story. Dr. Loomis seems to be both curious and knowledgeable, so what discoveries he makes and his reaction to them should be unique to his personality. By doing this, Jurᴀssic World: Rebirth can take some of those well-known scenarios and put a new spin on them, paying homage while also propelling the story forward.
