The LEGO movie brand takes on a new form with Pharrell Williams’ biopic Piece by Piece, and there are multiple options for where to watch it. The popular toy bricks previously were given the big-budget, animated movie treatment by Warner Bros. between 2014 and 2019. However, after focusing on original stories, Batman, and more, musician Pharrell Williams began developing a biopic told through the LEGO branding. Piece by Piece is a very different LEGO movie since it chronicles Pharrell’s career and life and uses the full creativity of LEGOs.
This makes Piece by Piece the fifth LEGO movie to be released in theaters, although it is the first from Universal. Warner Bros. failed to successfully develop another film in the franchise after The LEGO Movie: The Second Part came out in 2019. This led to Universal Pictures acquiring the film rights to all future LEGO movies, which got the studio involved in Piece by Piece. While the movie didn’t earn big box office numbers like the previous LEGO movies, Piece by Piece could find a new audience on streaming.
