A-list celebrities came out to celebrate the very best in genre entertainment at the 52nd Annual Saturn Awards, hosted for the third consecutive year by Joel McHale. This awards show celebrates the underappreciated genres such as Science Fiction, Horror, and Action. Alien: Romulus took home the award for Best Horror Film, while Cobra Kai came in first in the Best Action/Thriller Television Series category ahead of the release of its final episodes.
ScreenRant interviewed Violet McGraw, Madeleine McGraw, Michael Pruss, Peter Weller, Dean Devlin, Lisa Brenner, Drew Scott, Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, Andy Allo, and Shane Black as they walked the red carpet before attending this year’s Saturn Awards ceremony. The McGraw sisters discussed their individual horror project sequels, Megan 2.0 and The Black Phone 2, while also revealing they would love to do a crossover between the two Blumhouse franchises. Drew Scott teased his role in the new Ke Huy Quan film, Love Hurts, and Andy Allo successfully avoided the question about which Nathan was killed in the Upload season three cliffhanger.
The McGraw Sisters Were Excited To Return For Their Blumhouse Sequels
“It was a lot more of an exhilarating experience. A lot more adventurous and dramatic.”
ScreenRant: We’ve heard The Black Phone 2 is going to be a high school coming-of-age story. How different was it to step into that world again?
Madeleine McGraw: Definitely explores more teenage coming-of-age. I can say so much more once it’s out, but it was a lot harder for me to get back into Gwen this time around. You’ll know why once the movie comes out, obviously, but it was a lot more of an exhilarating experience. A lot more adventurous and dramatic.
ScreenRant: What was it like to get to return to Megan?
Violet McGraw: It was awesome. It was mostly the original cast, which I loved. It was amazing. I got to reunite with Amie Donald, which is awesome, and it’s definitely bigger, and it’s going to be an adventure for sure.
ScreenRant: How about a Megan and The Black Phone crossover?
Madeleine McGraw: We have actually been talking about that.
Violet McGraw: Time machine.
Madeleine McGraw: Maybe it will happen, who knows.
Drew Scott Used His Own Kumite Skills In Love Hurts
“You can drop pilates and hitting the gym, you just need to train with 87 North to get ready for an action sequence.”
ScreenRant: I just saw Love Hurts and noticed a familiar face.
Drew Scott: It’s fun. Ke [Huy Quan] is amazing. He is such a shining light and to be a part of an action comedy like this is really exciting. Nobody does stunt work like 87 North. What they put me through, that was a workout. You can drop pilates and hitting the gym, you just need to train with 87 North to get ready for an action sequence. It takes me back. I was a severn time national champion in karate for Kumite, so it takes me back to the fighting days and it was a lot of fun.
The Follow-Up To Alien: Romulus Is Taking Its Sweet Time For A Reason
ScreenRant: Are you already working on the next Alien, and how much farther can you stretch the franchise?
Michael Pruss: I am involved in the sequel with Ridley and our friends and colleagues and Fede, course. We are working on ideas for another Alien film, which may not be a direct sequel to Romulus, but it certainly is a part of the existing franchise.
At the moment we’re doing what I call “sitting around tables and drinking water.” We’re discussing ideas. Good movies take time, and I just worked on Gladiator II, and that took 25 years to conjure up a sequel. It takes a period of time to really examine ideas and understand if those ideas are worth pushing. Sometimes they are, and sometimes they aren’t, and we just have to submit to the best idea.
We are in an early phase, but we hope to really have something special to talk about as the year goes on. I promise it won’t be 25 years; it’ll be sooner than that, but I don’t have more specifics. We aren’t yet in more of a specific phase than just working with Fede and Ridley to try and come up with something great that will frankly garner the same reaction. Romulus was worth the wait, right? People loved it, they embraced it, and so it takes time to do it. But we want to give you something great.
Andy Allo Teases Final Season Of Upload
“I’m going to say, whatever you think, is probably true.”
ScreenRant: I cannot wait for Upload to return. What can you tease about what is to come?
Andy Allo: Season 4 will absolutely blow your mind. We filmed last year and it was such a ride. I know everyone is wondering which Nathan survived. I can’t tell you. I can’t tell you. I’m going to say, whatever you think, is probably true.

Cobra Kai Fans Are In For A Treat With The Last Five Episodes Of Season 6
“…a lot of big, fulfilling, climactic moments.”
Elsewhere on the Saturn Awards red carpet, Xolo Maridueña (one of the night’s winners) and the Cobra Kai showrunners hinted at how epic and emotional the final episodes would be.
ScreenRant: Did you have this ending in mind at the start of the show?
Jon Hurwitz: We planned this ending, but we couldn’t have planned how many instruments we’re playing in the symphony of the ending. We had our heads with Johnny and Daniel, and a little bit of Miguel and a little bit of Robbie and Sam at the very beginning series. Now, there’s 40 characters we’re in love with that we want to give the right ending to.
Hayden Schlossberg: I mean, they’re the biggest, most memorable episodes. When Cobra Kai ends, years from now, people will look back on the different episodes, these last five that are coming out are gonna have to be in a lot of the fans’ minds. It’s just one of those things where we’re excited. There’s new episodes still coming out, with a lot of big, fulfilling, climactic moments.
ScreenRant: What can you tease about the final episodes of Cobra Kai?
Xolo Maridueña: I can tease that we worked the hardest on them. This has been a seven-year journey for myself, and a journey since ’84 for Ralph and Billy, so they were putting in the work.
The tone felt very final, and for those reasons, we had over a year to film this last season, so we’re ready to have it be out now. I don’t know what the heck it’s gonna feel like internally, because then, once the episodes are out, then who knows if they’re gonna show up at Thanksgiving. So, we’ll see. But I can tell you that I’m so proud of it, and everyone else that’s supported our show, as well.
Yeah, of course, the last day on set [was emotional]. I was so grateful that this year, actually, both Ralph and Billy got an opportunity to direct, and getting them behind the camera, getting them in the position of riding the bull and directing where the ship is going was really just so fantastic. And they fit perfectly, so I’m hoping after the show comes out, we get to see whatever else they’ll do, and support them wherever they go.
