Jurᴀssic World Rebirth Trailer: New Stars Visit The Original Jurᴀssic Park’s Secret Research Island, And Unleash The Dinos That Were Too Dangerous For It

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth has received its first trailer. The upcoming sequel will be the seventh installment in the long-running dinosaur movie franchise, which includes two trilogies running from 1993 to 2001 and 2015 to 2022 respectively. The most recent installment saw Jurᴀssic World stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard appearing alongside legacy Jurᴀssic Park stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum. The upcoming Jurᴀssic World Rebirth, stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey and was directed by Gareth Edwards.

Universal Pictures has now debuted the first official trailer for Jurᴀssic World Rebirth. The trailer teases that the bulk of the action will take place at a secret research facility for the original Jurᴀssic Park attraction as Johansson’s Zora Bennett leads a team to recover dino DNA that could lead to a medical breakthrough. This research base, the trailer reveals, is home to a number of dinosaurs that were deemed too dangerous for the original park, leading to some intense encounters. Check out the trailer below:

A plot synopsis for Jurᴀssic World Rebirth was shared alongside the trailer, which includes details for the major characters:

Anchored by iconic action superstar Scarlett Johansson, Emmy and SAG nominee Jonathan Bailey and two-time Oscar® winner Mahershala Ali, this action-packed new chapter sees an extraction team race to the most dangerous place on Earth, an island research facility for the original Jurᴀssic Park, inhabited by the worst of the worst that were left behind.

Also starring acclaimed international stars Rupert Friend and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, the film is directed by dynamic visualist Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) from a script by original Jurᴀssic Park screenwriter David Koepp.

Five years after the events of Jurᴀssic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air within that tropical biosphere hold, in their DNA, the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.

Academy Award® nominee Johansson plays skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure the genetic material. When Zora’s operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on a forbidden island that had once housed an undisclosed research facility for Jurᴀssic Park. There, in a terrain populated by dinosaurs of vastly different species, they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that has been hidden from the world for decades.

Ali is Duncan Kincaid, Zora’s most trusted team member; Critics Choice and Olivier Award winner Jonathan Bailey (Wicked, Bridgerton) plays paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis; Emmy nominee Rupert Friend (Homeland, Obi-Wan Kenobi) appears as Big Pharma representative Martin Krebs and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer, Murder on the Orient Express) plays Reuben Delgado, the father of the shipwrecked civilian family.

Finally, the Jurᴀssic World account on X, formerly Twitter, shared the official poster for the film, which highlights the cast and features a design reminiscent of the 1993 original film:

What The Jurᴀssic World Rebirth Trailer Means For The Movie

Gareth Edwards’ Film Has Echoes Of Jurᴀssic Park

Edwards and screenwriter David Koepp have previously teased that Jurᴀssic World Rebirth goes back to the roots of the original Steven Spielberg classic, and the new trailer finally confirms just how. The inclusion of the original Jurᴀssic Park research base will provide an opportunity to explore aspects of the story related to the original movie, and it’s likely there will be some Easter eggs and references in there for fans.

Koepp wrote the original Jurᴀssic Park and its 1997 sequel, The Lost World: Jurᴀssic Park.

The trailer also, however, teases that Jurᴀssic World Rebirth‘s story will be more contained than the stories for the three Jurᴀssic World movies before it. In the poorly-reviewed Jurᴀssic World Dominion, the globe-spanning story features dinosaurs freely roaming the Earth, but the next installment is set to go back to the premise of a small group of characters experiencing dinosaur terror while trapped on an island. The plot synopsis included with the trailer also lays the groundwork for future installments, wiping the slate clean, in a sense, by suggesting that dinosaurs weren’t able to survive in all regions of Earth.

Our Take On The Jurᴀssic World Rebirth Trailer

The Reboot Sets Up An Exciting Franchise Future

Narratively, the Jurᴀssic World Dominion ending left the franchise with limited room to grow. Dinosaurs roaming the Earth alongside humans is essentially the biggest version of that original Jurᴀssic Park premise. By undoing parts of this ending, Rebirth will seemingly be leaving further room for the franchise to continue to evolve and raise the stakes with subsequent films.

Edwards has always been a director who is gifted at integrating visual effects into his films, as has been seen with Godzilla (2014) and The Creator (2023), and the new trailer suggests he’ll be right at home with the new movie. Though VFX and CGI will clearly be playing a big role here, a number of sH๏τs also rely on practical effects, such as the clicking raptor claws. Many questions remain about Jurᴀssic World Rebirth, but the trailer is certainly a promising early sign.
