Tom Holland’s Trending Movie On Max Is A Reminder To Watch His 2016 Adventure Movie With Charlie Hunnam

Tom Holland stars in the latest trending movie on Max, Uncharted, but after watching it, viewers should check out the actor’s other (superior) adventure film that premiered almost 10 years ago. Sony’s 2022 action-adventure movie is based on the video game franchise of the same name, with Holland playing the main role, Nathan “Nate” Drake. In Uncharted, Nate and Mark Wahlberg’s character, Victor Sullivan, race to find explorer Ferdinand Magellan’s lost fortune, going up against Santiago Moncada (portrayed by Antonio Banderas), who is also looking for the treasure.

An Uncharted sequel featuring the return of Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg is in the works, but a release date is unknown.

At the time of Uncharted‘s premiere in February 2022, it received mixed reviews from critics. However, the action-adventure film was a financial success. Uncharted grossed over $407 million at the worldwide box office against a budget of $120 million, making it the sixth highest-grossing movie based on a video game of all time. Audiences evidently loved it, reflected in its 89 percent Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes compared to its 41 percent Tomatometer score. Despite its success, Holland’s previous adventure film deserves the same love, if not more.

Uncharted Is A Reminder To Watch The Lost City Of Z – What The Movie Is About

Tom Holland Plays Jack Fawcett

Before joining the cast of Uncharted, Tom Holland starred in a similar adventure film taking place in intriguing, exotic locations — The Lost City of Z. The 2016 epic biographical adventure drama is based on David Grann’s 2009 book of the same name, revolving around real-life British explorer Percy Fawcett, played by Charlie Hunnam. The movie explores Percy’s pursuit to locate a lost city in the Amazon in the early 1900s. He is determined to prove its existence and that an advanced civilization once lived there.

Unlike Uncharted, The Lost City of Z is biographical. Percy Fawcett’s expeditions were real, as were many of the characters in the 2016 film, including Holland’s Jack Fawcett, Percy’s son. As depicted in The Lost City of Z, Jack accompanies his father on his journey in the Amazon. Meanwhile, Sienna Miller plays Percy’s wife, Nina, and Robert Pattinson takes on the role of Corporal Henry Costin, another real explorer.

Why The Lost City Of Z Is Considered One Of Tom Holland’s Best Movies (Outside Of The MCU)

Holland Was Nominated For A London Film Critics’ Circle Award For His Performance

Even though both Uncharted and The Lost City of Z are adventure movies, they didn’t receive the same success. Critics loved Tom Holland’s 2016 biographical drama, giving it an 86 percent Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes (compared to Uncharted‘s 41 percent score). Consequently, The Lost City of Z is one of the actor’s highest-rated films on the review-aggregation website, not counting Holland’s MCU appearances as Spider-Man. However, it was a box office bomb, earning only $19 million against a $30 million budget. The Lost City of Z is undoubtedly worth watching, though, especially for those who liked Uncharted.
