New Netflix Thriller Confirms We’re In The Peak Era For Matt Damon & Ben Affleck Movies, 28 Years After Good Will Hunting

Netflix has revealed that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are reuniting for a new crime-thriller called RIP, confirming that this is an exciting new era for their collaborations. After winning an Oscar together for their star-making roles in the 1997 classic Good Will Hunting, Damon and Affleck have been regarded for decades as one of Hollywood’s most beloved friendships. The pair grew up together and had dreamed of making movies as kids, eventually getting into the business together. Damon and Affleck have collaborated many times since.

In 2022, Damon and Affleck founded their production company Artists Equity, and they’ve been hard at work developing new projects together since. Both actors starred in the 2023 movie Air, based on the true story of Nike’s recruitment of Michael Jordan in the 1980s. Ben Affleck will star in 2025’s The Accountant 2, a long-awaited sequel to his 2016 action movie, marking his first starring role for the company. That being said, RIP is perhaps the most exciting movie they’ve developed yet.

After Years Of Recent Collaborations, Matt Damon & Ben Affleck Are Co-Starring In Netflix’s RIP

Damon & Affleck Are Finally Making A Crime-Thriller Together

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck spent over a decade in Hollywood working apart from each other before returning for their first major collaboration on Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel. Aside from both appearing in the movie, the pair also co-wrote the script alongside Nicole Holofcener. They’ve since starred in Air together on top of producing each other’s projects, but RIP is the first movie they’ll be directly co-starring in as a duo. In Good Will Hunting, The Last Duel, and Air, Affleck essentially played a smaller supporting role behind Damon.

A crime-thriller is perfect for Damon and Affleck to co-star in, given how much success they’ve both had in the genre. Damon starred in Martin Scorsese’s Best Picture-winning drama, The Departed, and one of the best movies directed by Ben Affleck was The Town, which he also starred in. They’ll also be joined by exciting actors like Kyle Chandler, Sasha Calle, Steven Yeun, and more.

Even After Nearly 30 Years, Matt Damon & Ben Affleck’s Shared Projects Keep Getting More Exciting

This Duo Doesn’t Get Old

Perhaps it’s the widely recognized knowledge of over four decades of friendship or just the fact that Damon and Affleck are two of the most enjoyable movie stars of the past 30 years, but their collaborations together keep getting more exciting. It might get tiresome to see certain pairings of movie stars on repeat, but like Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks or Julia Roberts and George Clooney, seeing Damon and Affleck together is something that will never get old. RIP should be one of the more exciting streaming releases of 2025.
