Companion Soundtrack Guide: Every Song & When They Play

The horror romance movie Companion includes a great soundtrack that plays songs from the very beginning until the credits are rolling. The film stars Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid as Iris and Josh, a couple who go on a weekend getaway trip with friends. However, the whole weekend changes when Iris kills the host and learns that she is a robot programmed to be Josh’s companion. What unfolds from there results in a funny, violent, and thrilling adventure from director Drew Hancock.

Although a good amount of Companion is set in a remote area and the surrounding forest, there are still several opportunities for the film to include music. The friend group does get one normal night at the cabin before things go haywire. Dance music is utilized to help the Companion cast and characters to have fun, while there’s also some softer, more romantic music sprinkled throughout. Some of the songs are more recognizable thanks to the Goo Goo Dolls, Paul Russell, and other artists being featured on Companion‘s soundtrack.

When Every Song On The Companion Soundtrack Plays In The Movie

There Are 9 Songs In Companion

“Gimme Some More” by Labi Siffre – The first song on the Companion soundtrack is “Gimme Some More” by Labi Siffre. The song, released in 1972, can be heard on the radio in Josh’s car as he and Iris drive to Sergei’s (Rupert Friend) house. It stops playing once they get out of the car.

“Please Take A Chance On Me” by Hannibal – Viewers will next hear Hannibal’s song “Please Take A Chance On Me.” This song, released in 2001, is a bit easier to miss. It plays in the background as Iris and Kat (Megan Suri) talk on the couch the first night, as Iris asks about Kat’s relationship with Sergei and why Kat doesn’t like her.

“Boy” by Book of LoveCompanion gets a jolt of energy from its music when Eli (Harvey Guillén) turns on Book of Love’s song “Boy.” The 1986 song is used so Eli and Patrick (Lucas Gage) can start dancing. It doesn’t take long for everyone at the house to join in on the fun, including Iris. The song returns during Companion‘s ending, too, but Josh turns it off quickly.

“Colour of Anyhow” by Beverly Glenn Copeland – The next piece of music heard in the film comes the following morning. As Jack is brushing his teeth and Iris looks out over the balcony to see the lake, the 1970 song “Colour of Anyhow” by Beverly Glenn Copeland is heard.

“Iris” by Goo Goo Dolls – One of the more recognizable songs in Companion comes during a pivotal flashback for Josh. Released in 1998, “Iris” by Goo Goo Dolls is heard playing in Josh’s apartment on the day that Empathix Robotics comes to deliver Iris. It stops playing during the sequence as Josh starts talking to one of the workers about the set up process and rules.

“Lil Boo Thang” by Paul Russell – Another popular song is part of the Companion soundtrack with the inclusion of Paul Russell’s 2023 single “Lil Boo Thang.” This song plays twice during the movie, although the circumstances are the same. “Lil Boo Thang” is first heard at the end of Patrick’s memory of when he and Eli met, as they are shown dancing to it at the Halloween party they are at. The song comes back when Josh reprograms Patrick and replaces Eli in this “memory.”

“This Guy’s In Love With You” by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brᴀss – The next song comes during Josh and Iris’ big dinner scene. “This Guy’s In Love With You” by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brᴀss is playing as the dinner begins and Josh wakes Iris back up. It’s an ironic song choice since Josh has Iris tied up and plans to kill her at this point.

“You Showed Me” by The Turtles – After Josh discovers an issue with his revamped plan to get away with killing Sergei, “You Showed Me” by The Turtles plays as Patrick works to execute the new mission. It can be heard as Patrick kills one of the techs and attempts to kill the other.

“Emotion (Feat. The Bee Gees)” by Samantha Sang – The very last song in Companion is saved for the credits. “Emotion (Feat. The Bee Gees)” by Samantha Sang plays as the credits begin to roll and Companion‘s post-credits scene, which occurs throughout the beginning of the credits, plays.
