Henry Cavill’s Highlander Remake Comes To Life In Electric Poster Fan Art

The Highlander reboot is imagined in a new piece of fan-made poster art, which features Henry Cavill with a sword. Released in 1986 and directed by Russell Mulcahy, Highlander stars Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish warrior who faces off against immortal enemies in a tale that spans both the past and present. A Highlander reboot from director Chad Stahelski, who is best known for directing the John Wick movies, is now confirmed to be on the way, and Cavill is taking on the lead role.

Now, as the wait continues for more information on the Highlander reboot, artist Sahin Düzgün shares his take on what the poster for the film might look like. The poster art features Cavill sporting long hair, a beard, and a dark cloak, and his hand is grasping an ornate sword with “MacLeod” engraved on the crossguard. The art also includes some lightning-like power surrounding Cavill, an effect reminiscent of the one featured in the original. Check out the art below:

What The Poster Art Means For The Highlander Reboot

Henry Cavill Needs A Win

In addition to providing a look at what a modern Highlander movie might look like, the poster art above also raises some interesting discussion points. Cavill, for example, leading the film is notable, as he arguably hasn’t starred in a successful film as the protagonist in quite some time. The last time Cavill led a successful blockbuster movie was in 2013 with Man of Steel, a film that earned mixed reviews from critics but was a box office hit.

More recently, Cavill starred in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024), which was a critical success but was really more of an ensemble piece. He also starred in the successful Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018), but Tom Cruise is the star of the show there. After disappointments like Argylle (2024) and Night Hunter (2018), as well as a fizzled end to his tenure as Superman with Black Adam (2022), the Highlander reboot could be the film that finally gives Cavill another big win as a leading man.

Our Take On The Highlander Poster Art

Chad Stahelski Could Lead The Reboot To Success

Though it’s unclear how audiences will respond to the Highlander reboot, the poster art certainly suggests that the property can be updated for a modern theatrical landscape. The original is campy and has a certain ’80s flair, but Stahelski could be just the filmmaker to rejuvenate the franchise with his unique and stylish action sensibilities. The John Wick franchise, after all, has been majorly successful.

John Wick: Chapter 4 grossed $440 million worldwide and has a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.

It’s worth noting, too, that John Wick star Keanu Reeves was arguably in a rough patch in his career before the 2014 action film, and that franchise totally brought him back to the forefront in Hollywood. It’s possible, in Stahelski’s hands, that the Highlander reboot will do the same for Cavill.
