Locked Trailer: Anthony Hopkins Traps & Tortures Bill Skarsgård In A High-Tech Car In New Sam Raimi-Produced Thriller

The trailer for Locked, an upcoming thriller starring Bill Skarsgård and Anthony Hopkins, has been released. The film, directed by David Yarovesky and produced by Sam Raimi, is an English-language remake of the 2019 Argentinian action film 4×4. Locked will follow Eddie, a thief who becomes boxed in a trap after performing what he thought was a routine robbery. In February 2023, Hit Man star Glen Powell was initially announced to play the role of Eddie before he was replaced by Skarsgård. Locked is slated for a March 21 release.

Paramount has released the official trailer for Locked, starting off pretty tame with Eddie (Skarsgård), a seemingly low-level thief who still needs to pinch pennies, looking for unlocked cars. He finds one, but it locks him in. The car’s owner, William (Hopkins), spells out the doom of Eddie’s situation by revealing the cutting-edge, almost devilish, features of the high-tech car, which has bulletproof walls, a cellular jammer, a seemingly remote-controlled air conditioner and heater, and self-driving capabilities. Check out the trailer below:

What The Trailer For Locked Reveals

Buckle In For A Thrilling Ride That’s Meant To Teach You A Lesson

What started as a routine day for Skarsgård’s Eddie quickly turns into one he’s not likely to forget, as he finds himself in a car that was meticulously designed to teach and punish. William, who is seemingly righteous and devilish all at once, is, for the most part, only revealed through Hopkins’ unmistakable voice. His agenda is initially clear, as he quotes one of the Ten Commandments, but, as the trailer crescendoes, he is seen putting Eddie through a series of traumatizing events that involve the death of seemingly innocent people, hinting at a more nefarious plan and moral compᴀss.

Our Take On The Trailer For Locked

Anthony Hopkins And His Otherworldly Car Are The Highlights

an extreme close up of Anthony Hopkins in Locked

While I’m in a somewhat starstruck and advocating mood when it comes to Skarsgård after watching his terrifying turn as Count Orlok in Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu, the most intriguing parts of Locked’s trailer are Hopkins and his car. In Locked, it looks like the Oscar-winning actor has found himself another villainous role to sink his teeth into. In roles like Hannibal Lecter in The Silence and the Lambs and Dr. Robert Ford in Westworld, Hopkins has proven time and time again that he’s capable of playing layered, complex villains and characters who are equally wise, charming, and disturbing.

It’d also be amusing to see Skarsgård doing a sort of 180 in playing a scream queen-type of role this time around, receiving the punches instead of doling them out himself.

In Locked, Hopkins is once again lending his talents to give depth to yet another terrifying character. The odd balance between righteousness and wickedness in William and the car he’s concocted for Eddie’s reckoning should provide for a thrilling theatrical experience. It’d also be amusing to see Skarsgård doing a sort of 180 in playing a scream queen-type of role this time around, receiving the punches instead of doling them out himself. I would like to see what kind of themes are actually at play once more revealing footage comes out, but, so far, in terms of sheer entertainment, Locked looks like a visceral joyride.
