Viral Star Wars: Republic Commando Trailer Promises The Ultimate Clone Wars Fan Film

Any Star Wars fan knows that Star Wars: The Clone Wars is one of the most beloved projects the franchise has ever created, which has paved the way for plenty of thrilling fan creations – including this stunning trailer. Because of The Clone Wars, and the revived love for the Star Wars prequel trilogy as a whole, the Clone Wars era has become one of Star Wars’ most prolific storytelling eras yet. From Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones to Star Wars: The Bad Batch, Star Wars canon has plenty to offer – but this fan film offers even more.

Created and shared by KRYPTIK on YouTube, the trailer for their fan film “LYCAN: EPISODE ONE” focuses on a squad of four Republic Commandos – Atlas, Reaper, Crypt, and Steel – on a dangerous mission in Separatist territory near the end of the Clone Wars. The trailer shows these troopers, equipped similarly to the famous Delta Squad, facing off against commando droids – perhaps their greatest threat in the Separatists’ army. With a perfect amount of action, danger, and intrigue, the trailer for “LYCAN” is absolutely everything a fan could want for Republic Commando storytelling.

This Clone Wars Fan Film Looks Like Everything I’ve Ever Dreamed Of

It’s A Perfect Tribute To Republic Commando

Republic Commando

As someone who’s always loved the clones, this fan film is literally something of my dreams, especially for a Republic Commando-inspired squad. The dangers they face feel very real, and the quality of the production is just utterly stunning. I’ve always been intrigued about the missions that squads like this would embark on during the war, as we mainly see those led direclty by Jedi generals in The Clone Wars – with a slight exception for Clone Force 99 in The Bad Batch. This film delivers on that desire, and it does so in a stunning way.

Will Star Wars Return To The Clone Wars?

It Seems Fairly Inevitable Now

A fan film trailer like this makes me, of course, hopeful that Star Wars might return to the Clone Wars era again, to tell more stories like this one. It certainly seems to be a possibility. The Bad Batch season 3’s ending set up a possible continuation of The Clone Wars story by focusing on Captain Rex’s clone rebellion, though that’s no longer the Clone Wars era as much as it is the Dark Times. Fascinatingly enough, it seems like our best chance of returning to the Clone Wars era is in the upcoming Ahsoka season 2.

Ahsoka season 1, episode 5 “Shadow Warrior” brought the Clone Wars to live-action for the first time since Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith as it took Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker through flashbacks of her experiences during the war. Given how well-received this particular moment was, it seems likely that Ahsoka season 2 will endeavor to do it again. Better yet, Star Wars may decide to simply make its own live-action Clone Wars miniseries. If this is the case, though, it hopefully won’t impede on the stories The Clone Wars has already told.
