Netflix has shared a first glimpse of RIP, their new crime thriller set to star iconic filmmaking duo Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. Childhood friends who shared a joint aspiration of becoming professional actors, Affleck and Damon’s first onscreen appearance was as uncredited extras in the 1989 drama Field of Dreams. However, it would be 1997’s Good Will Hunting, which they both wrote and starred in, that would not only earn them an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, but also catapult them into super-stardom.
In preparation for RIP’s upcoming streaming release this fall, Netflix has shared a new still from Damon and Affleck’s latest onscreen collaboration. Both sporting facial hair and Miami police shields, the pair’s serious expressions hint at their new crime thriller’s considerable stakes, which sees a team of cops uncover millions of dollars in a derelict stash house. What We Know About Netflix’s RIP
The New Crime Thriller Is Partly Based On Real Life
Written and directed by Joe Carnahan (Smokin’ Aces) RIP draws its name from Miami police jargon for the seizure of cash, drugs or weapons, otherwise known as “Ripping” it. Partially based on a personal experience that Carnahan’s friend went through as head of tactical narcotics for the Miami-Dade police department, Damon and Affleck’s new movie will see them both as part of a team of cops whose relationships and trust in one another begin to fray after the seizure of millions of dollars in cash.
Produced by Damon’s and Affleck’s own studio, Artists Equity, RIP’s impressive cast lineup includes Steven Yeun (The Walking ᴅᴇᴀᴅ), Kyle Chandler (Argo), Teyana Taylor (The Book of Clarence), and Sasha Calle (The Flash). While Netflix has confirmed that the movie will be arriving some time in fall 2025, a more specific release date is yet to be announced.

Whether Damon’s and Affleck’s latest team-up will go on to receive the same kind of positive response as their other shared undertakings remains to be seen, but what has been revealed so far speaks to a project with considerable potential.
