Chris Evans Addresses Reports That He’s Returning To The MCU Next Year For Avengers: Doomsday Alongside Robert Downey Jr.

Marvel Cinematic Universe veteran Chris Evans breaks his silence on reports that he will be back for Phase 6 in Avengers: Doomsday. While the MCU has been without Avengers movies since the end of The Infinity Saga, Phase 6 will finally change that, as both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are in the works. However, Marvel Studios is being limited in revealing who is and isn’t back for the two films, including long-time stars of the franchise.

In a new feature with Esquire promoting Anthony Mackie’s Captain America: Brave New World movie, the outlet got the Sam Wilson star’s reaction to Evans supposedly coming back for Avengers: Doomsday, as he commented, “I learned that right there. My manager showed me. He’s like, ‘Oh, so I guess Chris is coming back.’ That’s all I know. I haven’t seen a script.” Esquire also managed to get a comment from Evans about his alleged Avengers: Doomsday return, as the former Steve Rogers actor stated the following:

That’s not true, though. This always happens. I mean, it happens every couple years—ever since Endgame. I’ve just stopped responding to it… Yeah, no—happily retired!

What Chris Evans’ Avengers: Doomsday Comments Mean For The MCU Movie

While Evans may have denied the Avengers: Doomsday return report, this is familiar territory for anyone who has followed the MCU franchise over the last two decades. When it comes to Marvel Studios’ biggest projects, especially Avengers movies, reports about actors coming back are often revealed prematurely – before it has even been properly announced and confirmed by the studios. That is why many MCU actors often have to deny even their actual returns when asked in interviews; they can’t comment on their returns until Marvel Studios announces it themselves.

As such, it’s possible that Evans’ comments are similar to what happened to Andrew Garfield during the lead-up to Spider-Man: No Way Home. Even though the world essentially knew that Garfield was in the film for a number of reasons, the star had to deny it repeatedly in order to keep it a surprise for the general audience. With this in mind, it wouldn’t be shocking if Evans is a part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast, but that this detail is meant to be a surprise, or even be saved as a big announcement for something like San Diego Comic-Con.

Our Take On Chris Evans’ Avengers: Doomsday Comments

Chris Evans As Captain America Standing In Front Of The Gathering Avengers Army In Avengers Endgame

Though Evans has denied his Avengers: Doomsday involvement, it would be genuinely shocking if he didn’t return one last time for the Avengers films in Phase 6. With opportunities like playing Hydra Captain America and taking part in both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars on the table, it’s entirely possible that Evans’ comments are reflective of him having to wait until Marvel Studios is ready to confirm his actual return. As Avengers: Doomsday is set to start filming later this year, time will tell when Marvel Studios will offer clarity about Evans’ future with the MCU.
