Troll 2 First Clip: The Most-Viewed Netflix Movie Lifts Off With Early Look At Anticipated Sequel

Netflix has revealed a new clip for Troll 2. The movie is a follow-up to their breakout hit Troll, which was released in 2022. The first film told the story of a gigantic beast that wakes up within the Drove Mountain after 1,000 years in captivity. The creature is extremely destructive, ruining many things on its path to Oslo, Norway. The movie was critically well-received and did well in terms of Netflix viewership for a film, becoming the Most Popular non-English movie. Troll 2 was officially announced in September 2023, and underwent production last year.

Now, Netflix has revealed a new clip for Troll 2. The trailer begins with some familiar characters walking into a military facility. The mᴀssive new “Sunna Helicopter” is unveiled and Nora looks surprised. It is revealed that this helicopter is specifically “built for troll hunting” but can emanate UV rays powerful enough to fry trolls to their death. The trailer ends by hyping up, in English, “a lean, mean, troll-killing machine.”

What This Means For Troll 2

Troll 2 Will Raise The Stakes

The quick Troll 2 clip is sparing with its visuals. It doesn’t reveal the trolls that will appear in the second film but does establish the main plot point of the follow-up feature. Rather than hapless victims of a mystical attack, the Oslo inhabitants are prepped for what will happen when the trolls invade again, as this time, they are armed. This will create an interesting contrast with the plot of the first film, as the nature of how residents fight trolls has shifted.

Trolls 2 needs to raise the stakes, as it has big shoes to fill. Not only does the original movie have an impressive 90% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes, but it became Netflix’s most-watched non-English-language film in the platform’s history. It received 103 million views in its first 91 days. This is more than last year’s wildly popular French-language film Under Paris, which is also getting a sequel. The original’s clout could help the sequel, but it will also put pressure.

Our Take On The Troll 2 Trailer

Troll 2 Will Emphasize Its Action

A close up of the troll in the Netflix movie Troll.

Part of what made the first Troll work so well is its combination of a folkloric fantasy creature with an action-thriller movie. The first clip for Troll 2 really emphasizes the action piece of the series, hyping up the new troll-killing machine in the movie. If the troll-killer lives up to the hype in the clip, Troll 2 could have enough high-octane fighting scenes to keep audiences tuning in after 3 years away from the franchise.
