Why Tom Holland Isn’t In The New MCU Spider-Man Show

Marvel’s new Spider-Man show, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, introduces a new MCU Spider-Man variant not played by Tom Holland. Previously тιтled Spider-Man: Freshman Year, Marvel Studios Animation’s Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man provides a look at Peter Parker’s early days as Spider-Man in an alternate universe. While Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man presents familiar events like the Avengers’ Civil War, this Spider-Man variant won’t follow the same steps as Tom Holland’s wall-crawler.

As of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man‘s February 2025 release, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man story is right in the middle of a transitional period. Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s ending left Holland’s Peter Parker with no connections to the world, suggesting that the MCU’s next Spider-Man movies will take a drastically different direction, probably with Peter’s Spider-Man persona taking priority over his secret idenтιтy. Whereas the MCU’s first Spider-Man trilogy followed a young and inexperienced Avenger, the MCU’s Spider-Man 4 and its eventual sequels may follow a more independent and self-reliant hero.

Tom Holland has played Spider-Man in six MCU movies: his three Spider-Man movies plus Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. Spider-Man has only appeared in one other MCU release — What If…? season 1 episode 5, “What If… Zombies?!”, where Peter Parker survived the zombie apocalypse and joined the survivors’ efforts to eliminate the virus. Actor Hudson Thames voiced Spider-Man in What If…? season 1 episode 5, and Thames is now playing a new, younger Peter Parker variant in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

Who Is Playing Spider-Man In Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Brings Back A Familiar Voice

Hudson Thames’ experience voicing Peter Parker in What If…? season 1 episode 5 is testament to his skill playing the hero. Thames is attached to play Spider-Man in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and its two subsequent seasons, which are already greenlit. Although Spider-Man hasn’t played many supporting roles outside the MCU’s live-action Spider-Man trilogy and the wall-crawler’s crossover events, it’s likely that any future animated appearances by the wall-crawler will be voiced by Hudson Thames. These might include Marvel Studios Animation’s upcoming Marvel Zombies series, set to release in October 2025.

Before voicing Spider-Man in What If…? and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Hudson Thames appeared in numerous TV shows, including Disney’s Shake It Up, Criminal Minds, Mad Men, I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson, and Malibu Country, and he starred in the 2015 film The A-List. Thames started voicing animated characters from a young age, with small voice roles in movies such as Marmaduke, Next Gen, and The Tale of the Princess Kaguya‘s English dub. Hudson Thames is also a musician.
