An Agatha All Along actor reveals why her character was killed off and why the Phase 5 MCU show won’t have a second season. Agatha All Along is the direct continuation of Agatha Harkness’ story after the events of WandaVision, tying into Scarlet Witch’s death from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and setting up a few possible spiritual sequels. Both Agatha All Along and WandaVision were helmed by Jac Schaeffer, who also worked on Captain Marvel and Black Widow‘s scripts.
Speaking with Andy Cohen on his Sirius XM podcast Andy Cohen Live, Lilia Calderu actor Patti LuPone reveals why Agatha All Along showrunner Jac Schaeffer didn’t accept a second season for the Phase 5 show. According to LuPone, Schaeffer reached out and directly told her that she doesn’t “do second seasons”. LuPone voices her interest in reprising her witch role in the future. Read Patti LuPone’s comments below:
“Jac Schaeffer, the creator, came into my trailer and she said, ‘Patti, I’m just here to tell you that Lilia’s going to die,’ and I went, ‘But I wanted a second season…’ [Schaffer] said, ‘I don’t do second seasons. She said, ‘They wanted me to do a second season of Wanda Vision and I didn’t.’ She said, ‘There’s too much to write,’ so she does one-offs and I’m really hoping and praying that someday I get to work with her again because she’s magic.”
What Patti LuPone’s Agatha All Along Season 2 Comments Mean
The Events Of Agatha All Along’s Witches’ Road Trials Are As Definitive As They Seem
Agatha All Along killed off several major characters during their adventure down the Witches’ Road. Sharon Davis was the first to go, followed by Alice Wu-Gulliver, Lilia Calderu, and Agatha Harkness herself. Of these characters, only Agatha managed to cheat death, coming back as a ghost in Agatha All Along episode 9’s ending. Although MCU heroes and villains tend to come back from the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ just as often as their comic book counterparts, Sharon, Alice, and Lilia seem to be ᴅᴇᴀᴅ for good, and Jac Shaeffer’s refusal to make Agatha All Along season 2 supports this idea.
Lilia Calderu sacrificed her life to kill the Salem Seven and help her fellow witches continue their journey. Lilia’s sacrifice came at the perfect moment, as she realized where her magical powers were leading her since she started having prophetic visions. Similarly to how Alice Wu-Gulliver came to terms with her family’s past right before her death in Agatha All Along episode 4, Lilia Calderu completed her character arc when she died in Agatha All Along episode 7. Hence, Lilia is unlikely to return anytime soon.
Our Take On Patti LuPone’s Agatha All Along Season 2 Comments
Agatha All Along’s Story Will Probably Continue In Other Projects
The Agatha All Along finale left the door open for a direct follow-up, as Billy Maximoff and Agatha Harkness left their differences behind to continue their journey beyond the Witches’ Road. An hypothetical Agatha All Along season 2 could have followed a similar structure, with Agatha and Billy facing more magical obstacles while searching for a reincarnated Tommy Maximoff and possibly Scarlet Witch. Since Agatha All Along season 2 now seems unlikely to happen, Agatha and Billy’s next adventure could be explored in a Young Avengers project, Vision Quest, or even a Scarlet Witch solo movie.
