Patti LuPone Reveals Why WandaVision Season 2 Didn’t Happen Despite Marvel Wanting One (In The Creator’s Own Words)

Lilia Calderu actor Patti LuPone reveals why WandaVision and Agatha All Along showrunner Jac Schaeffer rejected a season 2 of Scarlet Witch’s hit MCU show. WandaVision launched Marvel Studios’ first wave of Disney* shows, to resounding success. WandaVision‘s high ratings and positive reviews paved the way for Scarlet Witch’s co-starring role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, White Vision’s return in Vision Quest, and WandaVision‘s spiritual sequel Agatha All Along, which followed Wanda Maximoff’s reincarnated son and her archnemesis.

Speaking with Andy Cohen on his Sirius XM podcast Andy Cohen Live, Lilia Calderu actor Patti LuPone reveals that Agatha All Along showrunner Jac Schaeffer rejected both WandaVision season 2 and Agatha All Along season 2, allegedly saying “I don’t do second seasons (…) They wanted me to do a second season of Wanda Vision and I didn’t.’ LuPone also praises Jac Schaeffer and hopes they can work together in a future project. Read Patti LuPone’s full comments below:

“Jac Schaeffer, the creator, came into my trailer and she said, ‘Patti, I’m just here to tell you that Lilia’s going to die,’ and I went, ‘But I wanted a second season…’ [Schaffer] said, ‘I don’t do second seasons. She said, ‘They wanted me to do a second season of Wanda Vision and I didn’t.’ She said, ‘There’s too much to write,’ so she does one-offs and I’m really hoping and praying that someday I get to work with her again because she’s magic.”

WandaVision And Agatha All Along Won’t Have A Second Season

WandaVision presented a sitcom format that paid homage to TV comedy series from different eras, but WandaVision‘s plot itself didn’t follow a traditional long-term episodic format. As soon as Wanda Maximoff’s Westview illusion collapsed, the possibility of her rebuilding her artificial sitcom life was gone. WandaVision season 2 could only happen if Wanda somehow created another hex, but that’s extremely unlikely after her Westview family disappeared right in front of her eyes and she doubled down on her evil desires in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It makes sense for WandaVision to be a standalone тιтle.

On the other hand, Agatha All Along episode 9’s ending left the door open for a second season, as Agatha Harkness and Billy Maximoff reunited to continue their journey together. Agatha All Along season 2 could have followed a similar plot to season 1, this time outside the Witches’ Road and with the search for Tommy Maximoff taking center stage. However, Jac Schaeffer’s refusal to make a second season might mean that Agatha and Billy won’t star in another series of their own, though they could continue their respective stories in other character’s shows and movies.

Our Take On Patti LuPone’s WandaVision Season 2 Comments

WandaVision And Agatha All Along’s Limited Series Nature Makes Them Special

While disappointing for those waiting to see more of what made WandaVision so exciting, WandaVision‘s standalone nature makes it a much more special MCU event in retrospect. Each MCU show is different from the rest, and Marvel Studios has respected their unique qualities so far. Loki didn’t extend past the two seasons it needed to tell Loki’s full redemption arc at the TVA, X-Men ’97 is already confirmed to cover at least three seasons, and like WandaVision and Agatha All Along, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier only received one season before its two leads got their own movie follow-ups.
