I’m Still Devastated About The 1 DCEU Justice League Member Who Never Got Their Own Movie

The DC Extended Universe has come to an end with the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and I can’t believe that all but one of the Justice League team members got their own films. That one staggering omission from Justice League spinoffs could have been the best in the franchise, exploring some of the coolest powers and some of the most disturbing stories in the comic book sphere. While not every DCEU film worked, many did, and I believe that giving this hero his own film, as was once scheduled, would have helped the franchise as a whole.

The DCEU’s original slate went through a number of changes after its announcement. After audiences and critics had a more mixed response to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice than was hoped, it seemed that Warner Bros. constantly made little changes to every one of the films afterward to align with a drastic change in vision. Suicide Squad’s quality is rumored to have been a result of this, although it is also worth reflecting on one of the projects that the series canceled before moving into production.

Cyborg Was The Only DCEU Justice League Member Who Didn’t Receive A тιтular Film

Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Aquaman And Flash All Had Their Own Films

Cyborg is the only member of the Justice League team who did not receive a film of his own. Arguably the same could be said for Batman, although that hero co-led the aforementioned Batman v Superman. Considering his fascinating hero introduction, I find this incredibly disappointing. Seeing the potential for Cyborg, especially in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, shows that he could have been excellent in the universe.

Cyborg was arguably the central character in the Zack Snyder director’s cut of Justice League. With darkness, pathos, terror, and pᴀssion all wrapped up in the story of a golden boy becoming part machine, there was much to be told in a potential Cyborg spinoff. While the character has not been as popular as the rest of the Justice League team, he could have been given an incredible film that gave a totally different look at the DCEU and how it intersects with Mother Boxes and technology both.

The DCEU’s Movie Track Record Proved A Cyborg Movie Could Have Worked For The Franchise

Some Of The Biggest DC Successes Were Unexpected

Strangely, the most successful films in the DCEU were some of the least expected ones. Aquaman was the highest grossing film in the franchise, while Wonder Woman made more than $800 million worldwide. Ranking the DCEU box office, the team-up films did not gross nearly as much as expected, while some of the outliers went on to enormous success. Following this path, it seems that there could have been a very high chance for a Cyborg movie to succeed.

Clearly, the wider creative minds of the DCEU were pᴀssionate about many of these characters. Audiences and critics alike loved films like Shazam! and Wonder Woman, suggesting that there was room for films other than the most popular characters of Batman and Superman to be a point of focus in the DCEU. Even Suicide Squad, which saw Harley Quinn and a group of lesser-known villains as its focal point, was proof that DC fans were willing to turn out for unusual projects at the right time.

Why A Cyborg Movie Held Real Potential For The DCEU

The Unique Character Could Have Made For An Incredible Film

Following this, Cyborg had a great deal of potential in the DCEU. The character’s links to the Teen тιтans team from the comics could have been explored, certainly, but even an examination of only the character himself could have been rewarding. Cyborg’s powers are terrifying and strange, and stories that examined levels of body horror inside the established world could have been incredibly satisfying. There are few characters like Cyborg in Marvel or DC, and he could have become a standout in this universe.

Seeing how Victor himself dealt with control over his incredible abilities, and how he used them to shape a better world, would have been extremely compelling. Within the larger scope of the world, I believe the character could have been a favorite, as was evidenced by how well he came off in the Snyder cut of Justice League. Unfortunately, it seems that audience interest in the franchise was not sufficient for them to feel safe making a Cyborg film.

It is disappointing to me to reflect on how little Cyborg was used in the DCEU. The character was interesting, and the performer behind him was strong. Many great stories could have been told with the character had he received his own film. This becomes especially frustrating when recognizing that everyone else who played a part in the Justice League team got at least one film. Hopefully, the new DC Universe does better with Cyborg, and allows the character to play a much more important role within the rebooted franchise.
