Scream Star’s Genre-Bending 2024 Horror Film With 85% RT Audience Score Breaks Into The Top 10 Just Days After Its Streaming Debut

The casting in the modern Scream revival movies has been a point of contention in recent years. Firstly, after contract disputes, the former series lead Neve Campbell was in 2022’s Scream but not the 2023 Scream VI. Later, Scream and Scream VI‘s Melissa Barrera was fired from Scream 7 after a social media post supporting Palestine. Barrera played the character Sam Carpenter in the Scream movies, and was well-liked in the series.

Despite leaving the Scream franchise, Barrera has gone on to have an active role in the horror genre. In 2024, she was in the movie Abigail, which told the story of a group of criminals’ unfortunate interactions with a seemingly sweet young girl who is actually a vampire. Abigail received strong reviews overall, scoring an 83% Tomatometer among over 200 Rotten Tomatoes critics and an even higher 84% among fans. Barrera’s other well-reviewed horror movie from last year is now finding newfound success on streaming.

Your Monster‘s success on streaming shows the strength of Barrera’s fan base. In this awards-season time wherein the movie has to compete with streaming Oscar-nominated films like A Different Man and Juror #2, Your Monster is appealing to those looking for genre-bending horror or more Barrera content in her post-Scream era. Your Monster did not get as wide a release as some other horror films from this fall, but luckily, it has enough audience support to become a streaming hit.
