Den Of Thieves 2 Digital Release Date Revealed After Reaching Major Box Office Milestone

Den of Thieves 2: Pantera‘s digital release date has been revealed after reaching a major box office milestone. Written and directed once again by Christian Gudegast, the sequel to the 2018 heist film features the return of Gerard Butler’s Big Nick who, put on leave by the LASD, follows Donnie (O’Shea Jackson Jr.) to Europe to team up with him to plot a mᴀssive heist of the world’s largest diamond exchange. Den of Thieves 2: Pantera‘s cast also includes Evin Ahmad, Salvatore Esposito, Meadow Williams, and Swen Temmel.

Now, shortly after reaching $40 million worldwide, the sequel’s digital release date has been revealed. Lionsgate has announced that Den of Thieves 2: Pantera will be available to rent or buy on digital platforms starting on January 28. There is no information on its streaming or physical release date, though the sequel will likely become available for streaming on Max, where the original 2018 film is currently streaming.

What Den Of Thieves 2: Pantera’s Digital Release Date Means For The Movie

It Ends An Underwhelming Box Office Run

By releasing on digital platforms on January 28, this will essentially mark the end of Den of Thieves 2: Pantera‘s box office run. It was released in theaters on January 10, which is generally not a lucrative time for the box office, but was the same timeframe the first film saw success in 2018. The sequel was released alongside Better Man and was expected to earn between $11-13 million during its opening weekend. It slightly exceeded expectations, debuting with $15 million, securing the top spot at the box office, and coming close to the first film’s $15.2 million opening.

However, the sequel saw a mᴀssive decline in its second weekend and largely fizzled out after that. It did recently reach $40 million worldwide, allowing it to break even at the box office considering its equivalent budget, but it’s exactly half what the first film earned in 2018. Needless to say, the sequel has seen an underwhelming box office run compared to the first film’s modest success, but perhaps its impending release on digital platforms will allow it to reach a new audience and help cut its losses.

Our Take On Den Of Thieves 2: Pantera’s Digital Release Date

Is It Worth Paying For?

On January 28, the sequel should be available to rent for $19.99 or buy for $24.99 on digital platforms, which is standard pricing for premium video on demand. However, it’s worth debating whether Pantera is worth these prices. Similar to the first film, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera‘s reviews were mixed, praising it for paying homage to classic heist thrillers, but ultimately falling short of its influences. In turn, it would probably be best to wait until Den of Thieves 2: Pantera is available for streaming on Max, similar to the first film.
