Star Wars’ New “Rogue Jedi” Made Luke Skywalker’s Worst Moment Look Tame

Jude Law’s “Jedi” character, Jod Na Nawood, has one scene in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew that truly makes Luke Skywalker’s cringiest moment look rather tame. While we all know now that Luke Skywalker is one of the most iconic, well-trained, and truly powerful Jedi in Star Wars history, we also know that he started a far cry away from that point. Having grown up on his aunt and uncle’s moisture farm on Tatooine, Luke never had a chance to hone in on his training until he was nineteen – which led to one hilariously cringeworthy moment.

Though not shown in the final cut of Star Wars (later reтιтled A New Hope), Luke wasn’t exhibiting proper lightsaber safety when inspecting the hilt of the weapon in Obi-Wan Kenobi’s home on Tatooine. The iconic image of this moment shows Luke looking directly into the emitter, which would have ignited at the simple flick of a switch and promptly killed him in the process. This has long since become a running joke amongst Star Wars fans, but in Skeleton Crew, Jod rivals Luke’s cluelessness with some of his own.

Jod Na Nawood’s Lightsaber Force Tug Is A Hilarious Mistake

He Could’ve Easily Pulled A Lightsaber Blade Straight Into Himself!

In the Skeleton Crew finale, Jod uses the lightsaber found in Tak Rennod’s lair primarily as an intimidation tactic, striking fear into Skeleton Crew‘s young cast and the people of At Attin. It’s clear, though, that he not only wants to avoid using the weapon on anyone, but also that he doesn’t particularly know how to use it – at least, not the way someone with true Jedi training would. This is most clearly seen when Jod uses the Force to tug the hilt from Wim’s grasp, though he fails to realize one important detail: the emitter is facing him.

Because Wim isn’t relinquishing his grasp on the weapon, he’s dragged along with Jod’s use of the Force, and that very well could have led to Wim igniting the weapon just for the blade to pierce directly through Jod. Clearly, it wasn’t something Jod was thinking about at the time, which further proves his experience with this type of Jedi weapon. We could have very well witnessed a very unfortunate death for the Force-sensitive pirate in a maneuver we’ve seen before with Sith such as Asajj Ventress and The Stranger.

Jod Really Isn’t Mᴀssively Familiar With Lightsabers

His Lack Of Experience Really Shows Here

While being trained by a Jedi after the events of Order 66, Jod never formally earned the Jedi тιтle, instead only petty Force powers that he picked up before his master’s tragic fate. Going on to become a pirate who fought for survival, it’s reasonable to understand that Jod doesn’t really know how to handle a lightsaber as well as a true Jedi would… and he’s certainly proven that. He may not have looked directly into a lightsaber emitter in Skeleton Crew as Luke did, but tugging that part of the weapon towards himself is almost worse.
