Now You See Me 3’s “New Generation” Teased By Producer After Filming Wrapped

Now that Now You See Me 3 has officially wrapped filming, producer Alex Kurtzman teases the introduction of a future generation to the franchise. While the plot details are unknown, Now You See Me 3 is an upcoming American heist thriller and will build off the previous two films, which collectively grossed over $686.6M globally. Now You See Me 3 stars Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, Lizzy Caplan, Rosamund Pike, Morgan Freeman, Daniel Radcliffe. The movie will be released on November 14, 2025.

During an interview with Screen Rant’s Liam Crowley at the Star Trek: Section 31 premiere, Kurtzman hints at the balance between legacy and innovation in Now You See Me 3. He describes the film as a collaboration of old and new elements of previous films. This development came after years of strategic planning, as the production team took time to refine the story before moving forward. Check out Kurtzman’s comments below:

Screen Rant: You’re producing Now You See Me 3 coming out later this year. Why was this the right time to bring a threequel to the franchise?

Kurtzman: I mean, it’s funny, Now You See Me is one of those stories that kind of works all the time. In many ways, it’s also about a new generation and an old generation coming together, which is really, really exciting. Magic is really fun. I feel like what we’re so proud of about Now You See Me is magic movies tended to not work, and then suddenly they worked really well when we made those films and people loved them. You always want to tell a story because you have a story to tell, and it took us some time to figure out what that story was, but we just wrapped recently and I think it’s going to be great.

What This Means for the Now You See Me Franchise

Now You See Me 3 Has Taken Almost a Decade to Develop

Introducing a new generation in Now You See Me 3 could help attract younger audiences by tapping into the franchise’s focus on modern technology and high-concept storytelling. Now You See Me, and Now You See Me 2, which were released three years apart in 2013 and 2016, utilized visual effects and risky heists that appealed to a younger crowd. Now You See Me 3 comes nine years after the sequel’s release, how the production team will balance the appeal to long-time viewers and a newer, younger audience is yet to be determined.

Now You See Me 3 wrapped filming in November 2024, with a focus on refining its heist sequences. The production team, including director Ruben Fleischer, worked with a team of visual effects artists to ensure the illusions remained visually compelling. The film will feature several elaborate stunts, with a heavy emphasis on practical effects. Locations for the film include spots in major cities such as Budapest, Hungary and Antwerp, Belgium.

With filming wrapped, Now You See Me 3 is on track for release. The successful integration of new ideas with the franchise’s established formula suggests confidence in maintaining its relevance. As production moves forward, Now You See Me 3 will likely continue the trend of combining innovation with the notoriety of the earlier films.
