Keke Palmer’s New Comedy Movie With 96% RT Score Pᴀsses Its First Major Box Office Milestone

After leaving both critics and audiences satisfied, Keke Palmer‘s new 2025 buddy comedy has already safely pᴀssed its first major box office milestone within the first week of its theatrical run. After her breakout role in Akeelah and the Bee in 2006, the actor continued to gain prominence as she led the Nickelodeon teen sitcom True Jackson, VP across three seasons from 2008 to 2011. Palmer would make further key TV appearances in the 2010s on Scream Queens, Scream, and Masters of Sєx, while also providing her voice talents to Winx Club and various Ice Age projects.

Within the 2020s, Palmer’s major movie roles have included Izzy Hawthorne in Pixar’s Toy Story spin-off Lightyear, and the тιтular character in the 2022 crime drama Alice. However, her most prominent big-screen appearance came in Jordan Peele’s Nope, where she earned acclaim for her portrayal of Em Haywood, a woman encountering a terrifying cosmic enтιтy on her family’s ranch. Palmer has also found success as a podcast and television host, singer, and Broadway star, having been the first Black actor to lead Roger and Hammerstein’s Cinderella in 2014.

One Of Them Days Has Already Hit A Major Box Office Achievement

The Movie Sees Palmer And SZA On A Mission For Answers

On January 17, Palmer returned to the big screen in Lawrence Lamont’s One of Them Days, leading the buddy comedy as Dreux Jones, roommate of Alyssa (SZA, in her theatrical acting debut). In the movie, Dreux and Alyssa track down the latter’s boyfriend Keshawn (Joshua Neal) when he disappears with their rent as their landlord comes around. One of Them Days has left critics and audiences united in their praise, accumulating a 96% critics score and 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, with Palmer and SZA’s chemistry emerging as a highlight of the movie.

After leaving an incredibly strong impression on both professional reviewers and cinemagoers within the first week of its release, One of Them Days has already met a key early box office milestone, according to The Numbers. As recorded by the box office tracking website, the movie earned $16.2 million within the first week of its domestic theatrical run. With One of Them Days earning over $16 million within its first 6 days in theaters, it has already matched and slightly exceeded its $14 million budget.

Our Take On One Of Them Days’ Box Office Success

The Movie Has Had A Strong Debut Despite Not Releasing In Many Territories

Dreux and Alyssa look shocked in One of Them Days

Matching its budget with a single week alongside critical acclaim, One of Them Days has had an incredibly strong start. Even with the lingering presence of Mufasa: The Lion King, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and Nosferatu, and more recent compeтιтion from Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man, the buddy comedy has been able to thrive and emerge as a potential early success story among 2025’s theatrical releases. Further positive word-of-mouth could see it maintain a foothold among January and February’s offerings, even as newer highly-anticipated features, including Companion and Captain America: Brave New World, arrive in theaters.

Furthermore, while the movie has been released in the US and Canada, it has yet to be slated for a release in many overseas territories. As such, there is still potential for wider box office success once it has a greater international release. With One of Them Days leaving a good impression on the 2025 domestic box office, it is likely that there is more success to come for Palmer and SZA’s buddy comedy.
