Brad Pitt Reunites With Fury Director David Ayer For New Action Movie, First Story Details Revealed

Brad Pitt is reuniting with Fury director David Ayer for a new action movie, with the first story details being revealed. The actor first collaborated with the filmmaker on Fury which, written and directed by Ayer, follows a five-man American tank crew fighting in Nazi Germany during the final days of the European theater of World War II. The film was released in 2014 and was a box office success, grossing over $211 million, with reviews praising Pitt’s performance and Ayer’s visceral battle scenes that depict the horrors of war.

Now, a decade later, the actor and director are reuniting for a new action movie. Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, Pitt is set to star in Heart of the Beast, directed by Ayer. With a script written by Cameron Alexander, the film follows a “former Army Special Forces Soldier and his retired combat dog who battle for survival after a plane crash deep in the unforgiving Alaskan wilderness.” Pill will also produce via Plan B Entertainment banner alongside Ayer under Crave Films with Alexander also executive producing.

The Oscar-winning director Damien Chazelle will also produce under his Wild Chickens banner.

What Heart Of The Beast Means For Brad Pitt

The Star Is Staying Busy Despite Hinting At Retirement

In 2022, Pitt made some vague comments about being on the “last leg” of his acting career, suggesting he was thinking about retiring sometime soon. He’s since walked those comments back, later that year starring in David Leitch’s Bullet Train and Damien Chazelle’s Babylon. Since then, he’s stayed busy, reuniting with his Ocean‘s trilogy co-star George Clooney for Wolfs, which became Apple TV’s most-watched movie ever. For Pitt, Heart of the Beast will serve as his follow-up to F1, Apple’s highly-anticipated big-budget racing movie which releases in theaters this summer.

Pitt has also remained incredibly busy as a producer through his Plan B banner, recently serving as an executive producer on box office hits like Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Bob Marley: One Love. He also backed Nickel Boys, an adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, which recently earned Oscar nominations for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. Additionally, Pitt is an executive producer on Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17, set for release on March 7, and director Nia DaCosta’s upcoming adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s classic play, Hedda.

Our Take On Brad Pitt Starring In David Ayer’s Heart Of The Beast

It Sounds Like A Suitable Star Vehicle

Centered around a plane crash in a cold climate, Heart of the Beast sounds similar to Society of the Snow or The Mountain Between Us. However, Heart of the Beast‘s central relationship is between a military veteran and his retired combat dog, similar to movies like Megan Leavey or Channing Tatum’s Dog. Harrison Ford’s Call of the Wild combined the two, following an outdoorsman’s adventure with a dog during the Klondike Gold Rush. Case in point, the formula has worked before, so Heart of the Beast should be a suitable star vehicle for Brad Pitt, especially with Ayer on board.
