Pamela Anderson Getting Her First Oscar Nomination Now Looks Certain, 34 Years After Her First Movie Role

Pamela Anderson keeps enjoying the success of her performance in The Last Showgirl with a nomination for the SAG Awards, which makes her chances for her first Oscar nomination even bigger. Awards season has begun, and this year, to everyone’s surprise, there are no clear favorites, but in a good way. 2024 and the first weeks of 2025 are seeing some great movies from different genres, which have won the praise of critics and general audiences for their stories, performances, and more. Among them is Gia Coppola’s The Last Showgirl, starring Pamela Anderson.

Written by Kate Gersten and directed by Coppola, The Last Showgirl follows Shelly Gardner (Anderson), a successful showgirl in Las Vegas. After a successful 30-year run, Shelly and her fellow showgirls face the abrupt end of their show, forcing Shelly to plan her future after decades in the business. What follows is a journey of self-discovery for Shelly as she figures out what’s next for her. The Last Showgirl has been praised by critics and has joined the awards season, with two nominations for the 2025 Golden Globes – and thanks to its most recent nominations, Anderson is on her way to an Oscar nomination.

In the latter, it was up for the Golden Seashell (the festival’s highest prize) and the cast was awarded the Special Jury Prize. The Last Showgirl made its way into awards season 2025 with two Golden Globes nominations – Best Original Song and Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama –but lost in both categories. At the time of writing, its most recent nominations are for the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG), in the categories of Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role (Pamela Anderson) and Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role (Jamie Lee Curtis).

The Last Showgirl’s consistent and successful awards season run, and mostly Anderson’s SAG nomination, are now making her potential Oscar nomination even more possible. If it happens, it will be Pamela Anderson’s very first Academy Awards nomination after over 30 years of career, and it will be very well deserved.

Why Pamela Anderson Getting An Oscars Nomination Would Be So Great

Pamela Anderson Is Getting The Recognition She Deserves

Pamela Anderson began her career in the world of entertainment as a model but rose to fame worldwide when she appeared on the cover of Playboy magazine in October 1989. Anderson’s Playboy career continued for 22 years, and in 1990 she made her acting debut in one episode of the sitcom Charles in Charge. However, Anderson’s acting break arrived in 1992 when she played C.J. Parker in Baywatch. After small roles in the movies The Taking of Beverly Hills and Snapdragon, in 1994 Anderson got her first proper movie role in the action thriller Raw Justice.

Following the direct-to-video Baywatch movie, Anderson starred in Barb Wire, in 1996. Unfortunately, Barb Wire was a critical and commercial failure but has gained a cult following over the years. After that, Anderson had minor roles and cameo appearances in various movies, such as Scooby-Doo, Scary Movie 3, Borat, and Baywatch (2017), as well as in different TV shows. The Last Showgirl, then, is Anderson’s biggest role in years, and it’s one that finally allows her to show her acting skills and natural charm.

Pamela Anderson’s career has been defined by her looks rather than her talent, which also limited her to small roles and not the best-written stories for years. The Last Showgirl has given Anderson the opportunity to shine thanks to her talent, charm, and warmth, and is finally getting the recognition she deserves. Even if she doesn’t win an Oscar for The Last Showgirl, her nomination will already be a huge win for her.
