Frozen Cosplay Brings Elsa’s Ice Powers To Life

Frozen
‘s Elsa comes to life in a new cosplay, which recreates her ice powers. Released in 2013 and directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, the Disney animated adventure film follows Princess Anna (Kristen Bell) as she embarks on a mission to recover her sister, Elsa (Idina Menzel), whose ice powers have plunged the kingdom of Arendelle into an eternal winter. The film was a major hit and was followed by the even more successful Frozen 2, and both Anna and Elsa are now set to return once more in the announced Frozen 3.

While the wait continues for Frozen 3, cosplayer Grimilde Malatesta recreates Elsa’s look from the “Let It Go” sequence from the original movie in an impressive cosplay. The cosplay features a screen-accurate blue Elsa gown, along with the character’s blonde hairstyle and makeup. The cosplay even includes a digital ice effect reminiscent of Elsa’s powers in the movie. Check out the cosplay below, which includes additional images showing an early version of the look, as well as how the final product came together:

What The Frozen Cosplay Means For The Franchise

Will The Disney Movie Get A Live-Action Remake?

While the cosplay is stunning by itself, it also raises questions about the future of the Frozen franchise. Disney has, over the last decade or so, released a number of live-action remakes of its classic animated movies. This has included new takes on Cinderalla, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Pinocchio, and The Jungle Book, among others. A live-action Snow White remake is also on the way later this year. Frozen, though, has not yet been confirmed to be getting a live-action remake.

Most of Disney’s live-action remakes have been for movies that are decades old, but the company is set to break that trend with the release of the live-action Moana movie, based on the 2016 film. Considering the first Frozen grossed $1.306 billion and the sequel grossed $1.453 billion, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Disney double down on this franchise and commission a live-action remake, even with the third film now in development.

Frozen 3 is expected to release in theaters on November 24, 2027.

Our Take On A Potential Live-Action Frozen

Why It’s Not Necessary (But Will Happen Anyway)

Most of Disney’s live-action remakes have not been particularly well-received by critics. A common complaint is that these new films do little to justify their existence, especially when the originals remain widely available. With the original Frozen having been released only 12 years ago, it doesn’t seem like a movie that needs a recreation in live-action.

That being said, most of the live-action Disney remakes thus far have fared well with audiences and been box office successes, suggesting there is an appeтιтe for them. Plus, the cosplay above makes the argument that it would be interesting to see Elsa’s ice powers brought to life in live-action. It seems inevitable that a live-action Frozen remake will happen eventually, but for now it’s clear that love for the original remains.
