Lord Of The Rings Video Imagines The Fellowship Addicted To Social Media As They Over-Share On Their Journey

The Lord of the Rings video imagines the Fellowship becoming addicted to social media as they over-share on their adventure to Mordor. The characters in The Lord of the Rings all share a common goal, that being getting the One Ring to Mount Doom so they can toss it in, making it so Sauron cannot take power in Middle-earth again. However, the series includes plenty of other stories and trials everyone goes through, such as Merry and Pippin meeting the Ents, and Aragorn accepting his role as heir to Gondor.

Now, Technical_Ideal9 on r/MidJourney has created a video imagining The Lord of the Rings Fellowship using Snapchat, oversharing their journey on social media. Highlights include Legolas referencing the “taking the Hobbits to Isengard” line, Bilbo finding the One Ring during his journey in The Hobbit, Galadriel bragging about giving Gimli a lock of her hair, and Gollum eating a fish. The final entries include Frodo shirtless at Mount Doom, alongside Arwen celebrating her marriage to Aragorn. Check out the full video below:

What The Lord Of The Rings’ Snapchat Videos Say About The Fellowship’s Journey

What Would It Be Like If They Used Social Media?

The Fellowship’s social media updates reflect the real events of the movie trilogy, from the start of their journey to the end of The Return of the King. The references to many core events emphasize how, if the characters really did have social media, they’d be highlighting all the important events seen in the films. It also plays into some of their personalities, such as the clip of Gimli stroking his beard referencing his pride as a Dwarf. These elements make for a convincing look at what it would be like if the characters really did use Snapchat.

While the notion of social media existing in Middle-earth is humorous to consider, it also would have kept the team connected even after they were split up during The Fellowship of the Ring‘s ending. This would have especially altered Frodo and Sam’s story, with everyone else not truly knowing their fates until the very end of the trilogy. However, having any form of communication, even if it were through magical means, could have lessened the effect of the trilogy’s themes of both fate and trust between friends.

Our Take On The Lord Of The Rings’ Social Media Reimagining

A Fun Take Creates A Modernized Fantasy Epic

Elijah Wood hides behind a tree as Frodo in The Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring

The inclusion of social media in the movies turns The Lord of the Rings into a modernized journey, something that is so out-of-place yet fascinating in its fantasy setting. While it probably wouldn’t work in a more serious setting, it makes for a nice spoof about how connected the Fellowship could have been if the 21st century technology was in their world. With a hilarious premise, the series of Snapchat videos is a perfect reminder of how connected the world is, and how difficult it is in Middle-earth.
