James Gunn’s Superman Poster Recreated With Smallville’s Tom Welling In A Full Superhero Suit Looks Incredible In DC Art

Following the debut of James Gunn’s Superman poster with David Corenswet, Tom Welling’s version of the DC icon from Smallville gets his own version of it. After having been gone from the big screen for several years, Krypton’s last son is about to make his return to the world of cinema with the DCU Superman movie. One of the biggest takeaways from late 2024 was the release of the Superman poster, which received a lot of praise from the DC Universe audience ahead of Corenswet’s film being released this summer.

Corenswet’s Superman poster style became a very popular concept, and it didn’t take long for other past versions of the Man of Steel to get imagined with that design. To show what Smallville’s Superman would look like with the DCU poster, Buffy2Ville shared new artwork of Welling’s Man of Tomorrow getting the same poster treatment as Corenswet’s Superman. Check it out below:

Welling, who starred as Clark Kent for a decade on Smallville and gave the world the ultimate Superman origin story, is, to this point, the actor to have played the DC icon the longest in any live-action format. While Smallville ended in 2011, Welling did reprise the role in 2019’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover as part of the Arrowverse franchise, where he shared the screen once again with Erica Durance as Lois Lane.

What The Tom Welling’s David Corenswet Superman Poster Art Treatment Means For The Hero’s Legacy

Seeing Welling’s Superman getting imagined with Corenswet’s DCU style is a testament to the marketing team at DC Studios, with many fans getting attached to the poster while also wanting to see other Supermen in a similar light. Since there hasn’t been a Superman movie since Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, film marketing has obviously changed in many ways. Corenswet’s Superman poster was a bit of an homage to previous material while also showcasing that this is a Man of Steel for the next generation.

However, the DCU’s Superman marketing also shows that there are so many ways to portray the beloved DC hero in the world of live-action. Corenswet’s Superman film will obviously feel different from Henry Cavill’s version in the DCEU movie timeline, the same way he was unique from Welling’s characterization in Smallville. That is why it will be exciting to see in what other ways DC Studios will display Superman as they keep promoting the movie throughout 2025.

Our Take On Tom Welling’s David Corenswet Superman Poster Art Treatment

Seeing Welling’s Superman being combined with Corenswet’s DCU film poster makes the idea of seeing the Smallville star back as the Man of Steel in his own franchise even more appealing. If the Smallville animated TV sequel show ever gets greenlit, it would be the perfect Elseworlds property for DC Studios, with the DCU’s Superman still establishing himself in his world, while Welling’s incarnation serves as more of a seasoned superhero in a different universe. But for the time being, the next live-action focus for the DC icon will be with Superman when it finally arrives in theaters this summer.
