Scream 7 Adds Another Returning Franchise Star

Scream 7 adds another returning franchise star to its cast list. Wes Craven’s wildly successful meta-slasher franchise began in 1996 with Scream, which became a modern classic. The success of the first movie spawned a franchise, which included Scream 2 in 1997 and Scream 3 in 2000. Since then, the series has produced a total of six movies (and a television show), and it is continuing onward with the development of Scream 7. Set for release in February 2026, the movie will see the return of franchise lead Neve Campbell, alongside fellow franchise alums Courteney Cox and Mason Gooding.

Per Variety, Scream 7 has added returning franchise star Jasmine Savoy Brown to the cast list. Brown played Mindy Meeks-Martin in Scream 5 and 6, the on-screen twin to Gooding, who portrays Chad Meeks-Martin. The Meeks-Martin twins make-up one half of the so-called “Core Four” survivors, alongside the Carpenter sisters Samantha and Tara, played by Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega respectively. However, Barrera and Ortega will not be returning for the new movie.

What This Means For Scream 7

The Franchise Could Go Back To Formula

Scream 6 was unusual for the franchise, as it was the first movie in the franchise to not feature Campbell’s Sidney Prescott, and it took the series to New York City for the first time. However, it seems likely that Scream 7 will see a return to the franchise’s roots and take place in Woodsboro. Brown rejoining the cast firmly reunites the legacy characters with the newer, younger characters, and represents a metaphorical pᴀssing of the torch. This positions Brown as one of the most important casting choices for the franchise.

Scream newcomers cast in the upcoming movie include Mckenna Grace, Isabel May, Celest O’Connor, Asa Germann, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp, and Joel McHale.

There have been many different theories surrounding Scream 7 and the direction it could take, but there is no question that it will look to blend the classic characters of Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers with new faces. Brown’s Mindy has already shown herself to be a hugely important member of the team, fulfilling the role of her uncle Randy from the original movies. With her pop culture knowledge and deductive reasoning playing a big part in helping Sidney and her friends survive Ghostface’s mᴀssacres, it’s certain she will have a key role in the new movie.

Our Take On Scream 7 & The Franchise’s Future

It Could Be Brown’s Swan Song, But The Franchise Continues To Evolve

While Scream 7 will see a shakeup, with previous star Barrera fired, the franchise’s likely return to Woodsboro will certainly provide some familiarity and comfort for viewers. Whether Brown will appear in future installments is unclear, and there is a chance her character could be killed off this time around, but she will certainly have provided a strong character to the franchise. Scream 7 should have more of the same, but the idenтιтy of Ghostface could provide fresh excitement. Perhaps Mindy herself is the killer, having snapped after so much death and destruction.
