Netflix To Make Intensely Claustrophobic Sci-Fi Thriller With Stars Of 2 Recent A24 Hits

Two former A24 stars have been cast in Louis Leterrier’s new thriller 11817. Leterrier is a French-born director known for his work in the action film sector. He made his directorial feature debut in 2002 with the action film The Transporter. He would go on to direct the sequel to that Jason Statham-led franchise. In 2023, Leterrier made his foray into a major existing IP, the Fast and Furious franchise, when he directed Fast X, an installment that saw him re-team with Statham and work with other major stars such as Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Vin Diesel, and Charlize Theron.

Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, Leterrier’s next movie 11817 has cast its two main stars. These actors will be Greta Lee and Wagner Moura. Leterrier directs the film, which Netflix recently boarded as well. The synopsis reads as follows:

The film follows a family of four who are suddenly sealed inside their home with no way out, and they must work to survive against both their dwindling resources and the mysterious, looming threat that is keeping them trapped.

What This Means For The Louis Leterrier Project

Both Main Stars Come From A24 Movies

Wagner Moura as Joel in Civil War

The exact character information for Lee and Moura has not yet been revealed, but they will presumably play the parents in this family of four. Based on the description, 11817 is intended to be a fairly insular thriller, where a small group of people’s biggest threat is outside the fragile comfort of their home. While these two actors have not yet worked together, both were in major A24 films in relatively recent years. Lee was the lead in Past Lives, which received critical acclaim and went on to be nominated for Best Picture. Moura was in Civil War last year.

Given Leterrier’s status in Hollywood, 11817 will likely be more mainstream fare than either Past Lives or Civil War, thus elevating both Moura and Lee’s profile. This will also be an interesting directorial spin for Leterrier, who has more often worked with major action stars such as Statham. As such, 11817 will be a unique chance for an unusual trio of people to come together to create a film that sounds both thrilling and highly intimate.

Our Take On The 11817 Casting

It Is Exciting To See Greta Lee Get More Work

Lee was especially a standout in Past Lives, and she was nominated for a Golden Globe for her work. After the film, she went on to play a supporting role in The Morning Show, which earned her an Emmy nomination. She is set to star in the threequel film Tron: Ares, which comes out in 2025. It is great to see the star of a smaller-scale A24 thriller getting so much work, especially one so capable as Lee. With Moura also on set, the leads in 11817 are destined to give compelling dramatic performances.
