Scream 3’s Parker Posey Wants To Return — Why The Scream Franchise Should Let Her

Parker Posey had a memorable role in Scream 3, and despite her character’s apparent exit from the franchise, the actress has an idea about how she could return. The third film in the slasher Scream franchise, Scream 3 is set one year after the events of Scream 2 and follows Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), who has isolated herself after the murders that have haunted her. In Hollywood, the Stab franchise film-within-a-film is going strong, but when the cast of Stab 3 begins to get killed off, Sidney returns to help uncover who the new Ghostface is.

One of the lowest-rated movies in the Scream series, Scream 3 marked a noticeable shift into comedy, emphasizing humor over violence and horror. Along with the usual cast of the Scream movies, Scream 3 features some notable newcomers, including Emily Mortimer, Kelly Rutherford, Patrick Dempsey, Carrie Fisher, and Parker Posey. Parker Posey was coming off a run of indie movies including Kicking and Screaming, Clockwatchers, and The Daytrippers. Scream 3 was her first major foray into blockbuster movies.

Parker Posey’s Scream 3 Character & Death Explained

Posey Plays Jennifer Jolie, An Actress In The Stab Franchise

Parker Posey plays Jennifer Jolie in Scream 3, the actress who is supposed to play Gale (Courteney Cox) in Stab 3. Jennifer teams up with the real Gale to figure out who is Ghostface now. The star of Stab and Stab 2, Jennifer was already a major star by the time Stab 3 came along. When her co-stars turn up murdered, she hires Steven Stone (Patrick Warburton) and Dewey Riley (David Arquette) to be her bodyguards. Jennifer tries to stay close to Gale while they search for the killer, ᴀssuming Ghostface would rather kill the real Gale.

While Gale is a little annoyed by that line of thinking, she can’t help but get along with Jennifer, and the pair strike up a friendship. However, when push comes to shove and Ghostface shows up, Jennifer runs for her life, leaving her friends behind. She ends up trapped behind a one-way mirror where she can see Gale and Dewey, but they can’t see her. Despite her pleading that she’s the killer in Stab 3, Ghostface stabs her multiple times before throwing her body through the mirror to Gale and Dewey’s horror.

Jennifer Jolie is a well-acted and fun character who subverts expectations of what the audience would expect of her.

Jennifer Jolie is a well-acted and fun character who subverts expectations of what the audience would expect of her. The star of a mᴀssive movie franchise, it first seems like Jennifer is going to be a diva, but she instead turns out to be a charming and self-aware character. Her ridiculous plea just before she’s murdered cements the tongue-in-cheek tone of Scream 3.

Posey Wants To Return To The Scream Franchise — & Has A Wild Idea For How To Do It

Posey Joked Her Character Could Return From Another Dimension

Gale (Courteney Cox), Jennifer (Parker Posey), and Dewey (David Arquette) listening for something in Scream 3.

Parker Posey’s performance is one of the best parts of Scream 3, and it seems that Posey had a lot of fun playing the role as well. She loved the part so much that she would happily return to the Scream franchise. Posey has even thought of a way to get her character back into the story (via EW),

“I did an interview for WNYC radio like three weeks ago for the play I was doing, and they said, ‘Well, there’s some people here that want to say hi.’ And it was the Scream team. And I actually pitched, ‘Can I just be in another dimension and come back?'”

It sounds like Parker Posey will take any reason to come back to the franchise. Unfortunately, due to the very violent and obvious nature of Jennifer’s death in Scream 3, she would need something like a new dimension to bring her back into the story. It would be tough to have Parker Posey return to the franchise, but if Scream can find someone with Posey’s pitch-perfect tone and acting to appear in the next installment, that character is sure to be a hit.
