New Gundam Anime By Evangelion Creator Lands Official U.S. Release Date

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, the new Gundam anime made in collaboration with the creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion, finally has an official English date. Following the reveal of GQuuuuuuX would first release a compilation film of the first few episodes before formally premiering later in 2025, and while it had a release date of January 17 in Japan, it was left unknown when it would premiere elsewhere, if at all.

The Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX compilation film will be a perfect segway into the anime, and there’s finally a confirmed English release date. Following the film’s premiere in Japan, GKIDS, noted anime film distributor in English markets, took to X to announce not only that they acquired the distribution rights to the film, but that Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX: Beginning will officially premiere in English theaters on February 28. There still isn’t much known about the story or casting, but regardless, having an official release date makes the series even more worth looking forward to.

When Will Gundam’s New Anime Properly Premiere On TV?

The main cast of GQuuuuuuX

With Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX: Beginning now having a firm English release date, that begs the question of when people can expect the anime to properly premiere. Naturally, it’s too late for GQuuuuuuX to premiere as part of the winter 2025 anime season, but with the English premiere of Beginning happening so close to the Japanese premiere, it suggests that Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX will premiere in spring 2025 at the earliest so the compilation film is still fresh in fans’ minds when they start the anime.

Another point of support for that comes from the previous Gundam anime, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury. The Witch from Mercury opened with a prequel film in the summer of 2022 before formally premiering in the fall of that same year, and as such, the release schedule of projects for Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury suggests that Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX will also release its projects in quick succession. A formal announcement is likely to follow the English premiere of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX: Beginning, and hopefully, it won’t keep fans waiting too long.

Why The Gundam Anime Will Be One Of 2025’s Best Anime

Why Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Is So Exciting

There still isn’t much known about GQuuuuuuX’s story, but it’s easy to see it as one of the best anime to watch in 2025, regardless. For starters, while the trailers suggest a departure from the fluid 2D action Gundam is known for, the animation and fight scenes for Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX still have all the intensity and great camerawork of a classic Gundam anime, something brought out even further by the stellar character designs. With Sunrise and Studio Khara working together, the series will surely be a visual masterpiece, and that’s sure to come out when it properly premieres.

The Studio Khara element is another big part of why GQuuuuuuX is so exciting. Neon Genesis Evangelion’s Hideaki Anno being involved is one thing, but the series is also written and directed by Yoji Enokido and Kazuya Tsurumaki, respectively, two of Anno’s most frequent collaborators who were also responsible for FLCL, so overall, the incredible pedigree of Studio Khara’s staff is bound to add an incredible amount of craft to Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX’s production. There’s little reason not to be excited about Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, and the film’s premiere this February will help to sell that even further.
