Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow’s David Krumholtz Addresses Being Cast As Zor-El In The DCU: “A Personal Triumph”

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’s cast has expanded. On the heels of Jason Momoa’s casting as Lobo, actors David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham have joined the DC Universe as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl’s parents. The initial announcement, as shared by The Hollywood Reporter, did not confirm whether the stars would portray Kara’s Kryptonian parents or her adoptive Earth family, but Krumholtz has since confirmed that he will portray Zor-El, Kara’s Kryptonian father and Superman’s paternal uncle. Aside from Momoa, Krumholtz, and Beecham, the cast also includes Milly Alcock as Supergirl, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll.

Following the announcement, Krumholtz took to Instagram to share his excitement over being cast in the DCU. Initially, the actor discussed his history as “that kid” with “overflowing drawers full of comics… escaping into worlds unknown… imagining myself having powers that would benefit the greater good.” As a huge fan of comic books himself, Krumholtz stated that “joining the DC Universe is a mindblowing privilege.” For Krumholtz, representing the symbol of hope in Supergirl as Zor-El is a personal triumph. He further said his “graтιтude” was “overflowing […] like those drawers did.

What David Krumholtz’s Supergirl Comments Mean

Few plot details about Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow are known yet, though it is believed that the film will adapt the Tom King comic run of the same name. As such, the extent of Krumholtz’s role in the movie is unknown. Most likely, he and Beecham will appear in a flashback sequence. However, in some stories, Zor-El and Alura have interacted with an adult Kara. Interestingly, there have been no announcements about who will portray Superman’s father, Jor-El, meaning Krumholtz and Beecham may be the first of the older generation of Kryptonians to appear in the DCU.

As for Krumholtz’s casting, he is a well-known actor with a long resume. Many know him for his early roles in Addams Family Values and the Santa Clause films. He has also starred in television series such as Numb3rs and The Good Wife, among many others. More recently, Krumholtz had a memorable appearance as Isidor Isaac Rabi in Oppenheimer.

Our Take On David Krumholtz’s Supergirl Comments

Krumholtz’s comments indicate a strong enthusiasm for comic books and superheroes, which means he’ll bring that energy to the role of Zor-El. Moreover, the actor is an unappreciated performer with decades of memorable roles under his belt. No matter what capacity he appears in during Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Krumholtz’s excitement and talent may well translate into something special for the DCU.
