Nosferatu BTS Video Reveals What Bill Skarsgård’s Count Orlok Prosthetics Looked Like On Set

A Nosferatu behind-the-scenes video shows what the Count Orlok prosthetics looked like on set. Bill Skarsgård, who is known for his role as Pennywise in the IT movies, plays Count Orlok in Robert Eggers’ remake of the iconic horror film. The physical appearance of Skarsgård’s Nosferatu character was intentionally left out of the movie’s marketing in order to maintain mystery and intrigue about what Count Orlok would look like in Eggers’ version of the story.

Entertainment Weekly has now shared the behind-the-scenes video that reveals Skarsgård wearing the prosthetics and what they looked like during filming. Skarsgård explains that while he has played transformative characters before, Count Orlok is the most transformative character that he has played yet in his career. Nicholas Hoult, who plays Thomas Hutter, emphasizes that the prosthetics are part of what made Count Orlok “incredible to see, and also terrifying to be around.”

What This Means For Nosferatu

The Prosthetics Are Integral To Nosferatu’s Success

The behind-the-scenes video showcases the impressive detail of Count Orlok’s prosthetics, which make the character look just as chilling on set as he does during the actual movie. Count Orlok’s grotesque and intimidating appearance, which is noticeably different from previous iterations of the character, became one of the movie’s greatest selling points. The prosthetics helped ensure that the character’s physical appearance lived up to the anticipation and high expectations that were built up in the marketing and in the months before the theatrical debut.

Hoult’s explanation of Count Orlok being equally impressive and terrifying to look at on set is evidence of how effective the prosthetics proved to be. Count Orlok is supposed to be an entrancing and horrifying character and the prosthetics fit perfectly into that dicH๏τomy. Skarsgård, Hoult, and Lily-Rose Depp deliver some of the all-time best performances in a Robert Eggers movie as they take the artistry of behind-the-scenes details and bring them to life.

Our Take On Nosferatu’s Behind-The-Scenes Video

It Is Further Evidence Of How Nosferatu Lived Up To The Hype

After all the discussion of Count Orlok’s appearance, and how Eggers was making vampires feel scary again, the character’s appearance needed to be satisfying. The movie undoubtedly pulls this off, not only when Count Orlok is first shown to the audience, but every time he appears throughout the film. Even by the time Nosferatu reaches its ending, Count Orlok’s physical appearance still feels impactful, and it helps with the presence he brings to all his scenes. The prosthetics are one of many elements that have contributed to Nosferatu being a critically and commercially successful film.
