Stallone wrote the script for Rocky in just three days after watching a Muhammad Ali fight. He refused to sell the script unless he was cast as the lead, even when offered hundreds of thousands of dollars while he was broke.

For Rocky IV, he asked Dolph Lundgren to actually hit him, resulting in a four-day stay in intensive care. Stallone is one of the only actors in history to have a #1 box office movie in six consecutive decades.
