Renowned economist and geopolitical analyst Jeffrey Sachs has launched a blistering attack on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, warning that his aggressive strategy in the 2026 Iran War is leading Israel toward catastrophe.
In a widely circulated interview, Sachs did not hold back, calling Netanyahu an “idiot” whose decisions have isolated Israel and pushed the country into an unwinnable conflict. “Netanyahu’s reckless leadership is going to get Israel shattered,” Sachs declared. “This is not strategy — this is hubris mixed with dangerous delusion.”

Sachs argued that Netanyahu’s refusal to pursue diplomatic off-ramps and his insistence on maximum military confrontation with Iran have backfired dramatically. He pointed to heavy Israeli casualties in Lebanon, strained relations with key allies, and the risk of a multi-front war as evidence that Netanyahu’s approach is failing. The economist warned that continuing down this path could result in strategic disaster for the Jewish state.
The sharp criticism comes as the Iran-Israel war enters a volatile new phase. While Israel has inflicted serious damage on Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure, Iran and its proxies continue to launch determined counterattacks. Sachs claims Netanyahu has underestimated Iran’s resilience and overestimated America’s willingness to fight an endless war on Israel’s behalf.

Many observers see Sachs’ remarks as part of a growing chorus of international voices questioning whether Netanyahu’s hardline stance is serving Israel’s long-term security or dragging the region — and potentially the world — toward greater instability.
As the conflict intensifies, the debate over Netanyahu’s leadership grows louder. Is Israel being led with strength and vision, or is it being driven toward unnecessary disaster by political stubbornness?
