On March 26, 2026, at Ban Chan Khrem, Khao Khitchakut District, Thailand, U.S. Marines from Task Force Ashland, I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF), conducted a large-scale Combined Arms Live-Fire Exercise with the Royal Thai Marine Corps and the South Korean Marine Corps.
This was one of the key exercises of Exercise Cobra Gold 2026 – the largest annual military exercise in mainland Asia in the Indo-Pacific region, co-hosted by the U.S. and Thailand. During the exercise, the units simulated a coordinated attack, closely integrating firepower, infantry maneuvers, and reconnaissance, significantly enhancing their joint combat capabilities in a realistic battlefield environment.
With deafening explosions and continuous gunfire, soldiers from three nations honed their skills in synchronized fire support, maneuvering under pressure, and gathering real-time intelligence. This was not merely a technical exercise, but also an opportunity for forces to test and refine their inter-agency coordination, ready to respond to any emergency in the region.
Task Force Ashland – a flexible and permanently deployed forward-deployed expeditionary force – commanded by the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, is specifically designed for rapid integration with allies and partners. Through Cobra Gold, Task Force Ashland continues to affirm its crucial role in supporting a free and open Indo-Pacific, providing immediate response capabilities for any unexpected situation, from humanitarian relief to large-scale combat operations.
Cobra Gold is not only Asia’s largest military exercise but also incorporates humanitarian projects, contributing to strengthening regional partnerships and clearly demonstrating the U.S.’s strong commitment to maintaining security, stability, and peace in the Indo-Pacific. The active participation of U.S., Thai, and South Korean Marines in today’s live-fire exercise is vivid proof of the increasingly solid alliance.
With the spirit of “Ready to Fight Tonight,” U.S. Marines and their allies are affirming that they are always at the forefront, always ready to cooperate, and always the most reliable force to protect shared interests in this vast region. Cobra Gold 2026 once again sends a clear message: when the U.S. and its partners stand together, the strength of the alliance will be the decisive factor for the long-term security and stability of the Indo-Pacific.
