On March 26, 2026, amidst the narrow and challenging waters of the Balabac Strait – one of Southeast Asia’s most strategically important shipping lanes – Pacific Marines of Task Force Ashland, I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF), deployed a тιԍнт security presence to protect the entire amphibious ᴀssault force aboard the USS Ashland (LSD 48).
With a high state of combat readiness, the fully armed Marines continuously patrolled, monitored, and controlled all activities on board throughout the transit through the strait. This proactive defense ensured the absolute safety of the entire group against any potential threats in the region.
Task Force Ashland is a flexible, forward-deployed expeditionary force commanded by the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Specifically designed for rapid integration with allies and partners in the region, Task Force Ashland plays a pivotal role in supporting a free and open Indo-Pacific.
